Kit Harington, who played Jon Snow in the first season of GOT, is expected to reprise his role in the upcoming HBO sequel series. HBO’s 2011 adaptation of George R.R. Martin’s bestselling fantasy series A Song of Ice and Fire, Game of Thrones, was a critical and commercial success. After eight seasons, the show was canceled, but the network has expressed continued interest in continuing the franchise with spinoffs. The premiere of the first, titled House of the Dragon, is scheduled for August.

Jon Snow, played by Harington, was an important character throughout the series. As the series progressed, the role of the honorable bastard Jon grew increasingly important, culminating in one of the show’s biggest twists when he was killed off in season 5 and brought back to life later. After killing his lover and newly revealed aunt Daenerys Targaryen in the final episode of Game of Thrones, Jon was exiled from Westeros and joined the Wildlings north of the Wall, where he appeared to find peace.

Is A GoT Spin-off Still A Possibility?

As things stand, it looks like the calm will not last very long. According to The Hollywood Reporter, HBO is working on a possible Game of Thrones spinoff series centered on Jon Snow. Still, in its infancy, the show has Harington attached to return as Jon Snow if production moves forward. There have been no announcements regarding the members of the creative team.

This is a huge step forward for HBO’s immensely popular Game of Thrones series. The network started developing spinoffs long before the end of the original series. The Jon Snow project stands out because it would be the first Game of Thrones spinoff to take place after the series finale, while the others in development, such as 10,000 Ships and 9 Voyages, are all prequels. It shouldn’t come as a surprise, though, that HBO wants to speed up the timeline. Despite the show’s track record of character deaths, the finale left a few major players alive and in a position to head up a spinoff series.

Continuing From Where Things Were Left Off

After leaving Westeros in the eighth season finale of Game of Thrones, Jon Snow is one of the most compelling characters to take the helm of a spinoff. His travels beyond the Wall will open up new possibilities for discovering and describing life in Martin’s world. Some might be quick to point out that events in Game of Thrones have already taken place far beyond the Wall, and they wouldn’t be completely wrong.

This GOT sequel series, led by Jon Snow, doesn’t have to worry about retreading old ground by visiting Westeros, so it can delve more deeply than ever into the North’s mysteries. Other fan-favorite characters, such as Tormund, may also make a comeback. As the release of House of the Dragon draws near, it is unclear how high of a priority HBO places on the second season of Game of Thrones. However, with such a well-known character as Jon attached, the show has a great shot at success if the creative team can get together soon.
