The director of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, James Gunn, has recently opened up about his disagreement with certain plot points in 2018’s Avengers: Infinity War involving his Guardians. While the Guardians played a crucial role in the back-to-back epic movies, Gunn has expressed his opinion on Star-Lord’s actions.
Gunn’s Take On Avengers: Infinity War
In a conversation with The Hollywood Reporter, James Gunn revealed the storylines involving his Guardians of the Galaxy that he would have done differently. One of these included Star-Lord’s failure to kill Gamora after she had asked him to do so. Another was Star-Lord’s attack on Thanos, which some fans blamed for the Mad Titan’s victory.
James Gunn’s Avengers Remorse
This is not the first time that James Gunn has expressed his regret over some aspects of Avengers: Infinity War. Although Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely wrote the Phase 3 film, Gunn contributed to it, particularly in terms of his Guardians’ lines. Gunn has previously regretted the scene where Drax believed he was invisible because it led to an endless stream of jokes and memes.
However, this is one of the first instances where the director revealed his disagreement with other writers’ choices, particularly for scenes that were pivotal to the film. If Star-Lord had killed Gamora or had not attacked Thanos, the outcome of the movie could have been different.
James Gunn’s Version Of Infinity War
Fans may wonder what James Gunn’s version of Avengers: Infinity War and Endgame would have been like. With Vol. 3 being his final Marvel film and him being the newly crowned DC boss, he may have more to share about his Guardians journey in the days to come.
