As Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 hits theaters, fans are eager to know how many post-credits scenes they should stick around for. Post-credits scenes have become a staple for Marvel Studios, but the number and content of the tags vary from project to project.

James Gunn’s Guardians of the Galaxy franchise has been particularly unpredictable in this regard, with each release sporting a different number of end-credit scenes. However, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 has now been confirmed to contain two post-credits scenes.

The first post-credits scene falls after the mid-credits and the second follows the rolling credits, which is a standard pattern for a Marvel Studios movie. This is the same number as Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania, but a departure from Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, which only included one.

The original Guardians of the Galaxy film also had two post-credits scenes, while Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 had five, including one that foreshadowed the creation of Vol. 3’s Adam Warlock. In contrast, Disney+’s Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special only had one hilarious scene of Groot being decorated as a Christmas tree.

New Lineup For The Guardians Of The Galaxy

The mid-credits scene in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 sets up the future of the Guardians under a new director since James Gunn is now over at DC Studios. The scene introduces a whole new lineup for the cosmic team, including Rocket Raccoon (leader), Groot, Kraglin, Adam Warlock, Phyla, and Cosmo.

The second post-credits scene features Chris Pratt’s Peter Quill back on Earth, eating cereal with his grandpa, who is holding a newspaper referencing Kevin Bacon’s “Alien Abduction” in The Holiday Special. The scene ends with a wipe to white and text promising “The Legendary Star-Lord will Return.”

Unlike other Marvel Studios movies, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3’s post-credits scenes are focused on closing the book for this group of Guardians while opening the doors to a future for this whole new roster. The scenes were contained to the Guardians’ corner of the MCU and did not set up larger stories with the Multiverse and Jonathan Majors’ Kang.

Post-credits scenes are a major topic among Marvel die-hards as they can reveal more of the MCU’s overarching narrative. Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings’ end-credits tag is an example of a recent scene that connected Shang-Chi to Captain Marvel, Bruce Banner, and Wong while also teasing something bigger at play.
