Gwyneth Paltrow is facing legal trouble in the form of a hit-and-run ski case from 2016. Terry Sanderson, a retired optometrist, is suing Paltrow for $300,000 in damages, alleging that she crashed into him while skiing at Deer Valley Resort in Utah, leaving him seriously injured. In turn, Paltrow is countersuing Sanderson for a million dollars, alleging that he was the one who collided with her.

The trial began on March 21, and on the first day of the trial, Paltrow’s choice of eyewear became the subject of criticism on social media. Paltrow’s large, aviator-rimmed glasses drew comparisons to the infamous serial killer Jeffrey Dahmer, with some accusing her of trying to blend in with the courtroom setting.

The hit-and-run incident allegedly caused Sanderson to suffer severed ribs, brain trauma, and acute emotional distress. Sanderson claims that the injuries have restricted him from “enjoying life.” Paltrow is being represented by James Egan, and both parties are expected to testify in court.

Paltrow has faced criticism in the past for promoting unproven and potentially harmful health products on her lifestyle brand, Goop. However, the criticism she’s facing now is entirely unrelated to her business ventures and could potentially have career-ending consequences. It remains to be seen how the trial will conclude and what the outcome will be for Paltrow.
