Season one of Marvel’s Hawkeye on Disney+ starring Jeremy Renner and Hailee Steinfeld has concluded, but will there be a season two? Renner’s Hawkeye was given a starring role in the fourth MCU live-action series, while Steinfeld’s Kate Bishop was introduced to audiences during his New York City Christmas adventure.

With Hawkeye being advertised as a limited series, similar to WandaVision and Falcon and the Winter Soldier, it’s hard to imagine there will be a second season. In terms of their vast superhero projects, though, Marvel can be sneakier than Yelena.

As a result, we should not give up hope just yet. Neither Loki nor What If…? were renewed for a second season by Disney+ until after their initial seasons had concluded, but that doesn’t mean we won’t see Hawkeye again.

The series was placed into the comedy genre at the Emmys, typically designated for continuous programs, not one-off mini-series. Therefore, I believe a season 2 is on the way.

Bert and Bertie, the show’s directors, told Buzzfeed about season two:

“It’s exciting to hear fans clamoring for a season two. We can’t say anything. I think that’s when you know you’re doing something right and that people are really satisfied. They’ve been around for this rollercoaster and they want more. More Kate, more Yelena, more everything. It’s the Marvel Cinematic Universe, so these stories continue, right?”

Jeremy Renner’s participation in Hawkeye Season 2 is the greatest mystery. Season one essentially established Hailee Steinfeld’s Kate Bishop as the new Hawkeye.

That implies Hailee will likely come back, but we shouldn’t write off Jeremy just yet. Producer Trinh Tran has said that Renner may still have a role to play in the MCU in the future. However, we anticipate his role will be diminished from here on out.

There’s also a lot of mystery around Vincent D’Onofrio’s Kingpin in the Netflix shows Hawkeye and Daredevil. Kingpin brought together a gang of crime bosses in the last arc of Matt Fraction’s classic Hawkeye comic.

However, in the show’s climactic Hawkeye episode, Echo shot Hawkeye out of the picture, thereby murdering the hero. Can we assume that Kingpin is dead, or will he somehow reappear in the future, crippled but otherwise healthy?

Either way, I think investing in the second option is better. He’ll likely appear in Hawkeye Season 2 and/or Echo’s spinoff. I’m sure Kate’s new best friend, Yelena Romanoff, will stay around to assist, too.

Hawkeye Season 2 Plot

Set after the events of Avengers: Endgame, Hawkeye opens with Renner’s Clint Barton enjoying time with his three children at a Broadway production of Rogers the Musical. However, when his cover as a Ronin was challenged, he was sent on a new assignment, during which he encountered Kate Bishop.

The mentor and mentee were better off with each other’s participation. Thus he had to overcome his reluctance to take on a student. The Tracksuit Mafia, lead by Echo, seemed destined to be the show’s principal enemy at first, but Wilson Fisk, aka Kingpin, was finally shown to be the true evil.

As luck would have it, Barton and Bishop made it through the experience unscathed, just in time to have a joyous Christmas together. The first season of Hawkeye left the door open for Clint Barton to continue his role as Hawkeye with his new partner, Kate Bishop.

Whether or not that tale unfolds in Hawkeye season 2 is out in the air, but what is definite is Kate’s eventual participation with the Avengers. Marvel has promised a Young Avengers squad for some time, which implies that Hailee Steinfeld’s protagonist might soon show up on the big screen with Wanda’s children, Ant-Man’s daughter, and plenty of other new heroes who appear ready to supplant the old classics.

The Marvel series is part of a larger plan that encompasses the MCU. Therefore their second seasons don’t come out as quickly as other TV shows do. And so season 2 of Hawkeye will likely not be available on Disney+ for quite some time.

At the same time, because there is no official announcement yet, it makes it more difficult to speculate on when a narrative like Hawkeye may return or whether it would be revived. There’s always a chance these actors may appear in a different movie or TV series.

Either way, Hawkeye season 2 may so likely premiere in 2024. Kate’s next story’s setting will determine where the series goes from here, although Marvel may consider returning to the series’ previous Christmas vibe and premiere time.
