Star Wars fans all over the world, shiver over one name. The greatest and most loved character in Star Wars history. The fans know who we’re talking about. Yes, it’s Anakin Skywalker played by Hayden Christensen. The Star Wras world is expected to get their redemption series after three decades. It isn’t some fairy tale, though, but its something that is building up for serious this time.

Obi-Wan Kenobi, the next Star Wars series from Disney+ and Lucasfilm, has a lot to live up to. Fans are salivating at the prospect of seeing Ewan McGregor, a fan favourite, return to the role of the famed Jedi Master. Furthermore, if reports are to be believed, the series will feature a number of well-known characters from the Star Wars universe.

Hayden Christensen has also stated that he will reprise his role as Darth Vader in the streaming series. It has been confirmed that Vader and Kenobi will engage in a lightsaber duel during the series, much before their fatal encounter onboard the first Death Star in A New Hope.

Since we now know that both of the actors are set to reprise their roles, what could this mean? It was years ago when, Anakin and Obi-Wan had their battle on a volcanic landscape. In the end, Obi-Wan won, leaving a distraught Anakin to burn away in his crimes.

Who doesn’t love revenge? Well, Star Wars fans are about to taste some rematch blood. Since the events of Revenge of the SIth, Obi-Wan has been in exile on the sands of Tatooine. A new poster that was released as the first promotional material for the show confirmed that. It saw Obi-Wan walking through the desert with a familiar object in hand.

Fans have also speculated that what he is holding is a lightsaber. But, not any ordinary lightsaber. It clearly looks like the Lightsaber of Anakin Skywalker. MakingStarWars confirmed the part where in Hayden Christensen will return in his deaged form. This will be through special computer-generated imagery. So, he will be younger on the show. So is a rematch on the cards?

To begin with, it’s understandable that Christensen would be de-aged for the role of Obi-Wan Kenobi. After all, the actor hasn’t portrayed Anakin in almost fifteen years, and some digital wizardry is required to recreate the character as he was in his early twenties.

It appears that the show is preparing for at least one, if not several, full-fledged Clone Wars flashbacks. After all, Anakin and Obi-Wan were frequently teamed on missions during the war, and since both of their actors are in the main cast, it’s only reasonable to include sequences from the past.

Ewan McGregor, the actor, has previously teased the long-awaited rematch. He didn’t go into specifics about the fight or the plot around it, but he did remark.

“It’s no secret that Hayden Christensen is returning. We also had the opportunity to reprise our roles as Obi-Wan Kenobi and Anakin Skywalker, and it was fantastic to work with him again… I’m not going to say anything else about the plot except that I believe it will truly satisfy Star Wars enthusiasts.”

The last time the Jedi and Sith Lord fought was on Mustafar in Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith’s climactic third act. While Obi-Wan emerged triumphant, he was unable to put an end to Anakin’s life. Darth Sidious was able to locate Vader and place him in recuperation as a result, allowing Skywalker to don the legendary Darth Vader suit. Since the 2005 film, McGregor and Christensen have not reprised their roles as their respective legendary characters.

Not One, But Two Battles

Obi-Wan and Darth Vader will have “two epic clashes against each other” that will “rank at the top” of Star Wars duels. For the first time since 2005’s Revenge of the Sith, director Deborah Chow teased something special. The audience would “certainly see Obi-Wan and Darth Vader go into it again.”

In a teaser reel, Chow, who directed episodes of The Mandalorian. She said, “We couldn’t depict the narrative of Obi-Wan Kenobi without mentioning Anakin or Vader.” Sith concluded with the Jedi Master exiled on Tatooine, where he kept watch over Anakin’s kid, Luke Skywalker, who was born without his twin sister Leia.

Obi-Wan will battle the Jedi-hunting Inquisitors during the Galactic Empire’s reign. He is responsible for protecting the Skywalker children from the likes of Emperor Palpatine.

“There’s a hunger for this character to come back. The fans have been waiting long enough,” McGregor, who played the younger Jedi knight turned master in George Lucas’ Star Wars prequels, said in the sizzle reel. “The most beautiful thing of all is that it’s brought me back together with Hayden … [We’ll] have another swing at each other. It might be quite satisfying for everybody. We hope that you enjoy it as much as we’ve enjoyed making it!”

Obi-Wan Kenobi will Premiere on Disney+ on May 25th 2022.
