Toss a Coin to Your Witcher – an internet sensation

The Witcher Season 1 saw Geralt slaying monsters for coin. However, the hunter has somewhat of a reputation among the Continent people. In an attempt to get Geralt in the good books of people who mistrusted him, the bard Jaskier, played by Joey Batey, composes a song for him in episode two.

The song, titled “Toss a Coin to Your Witcher,” instantly became viral when the show was released in 2019. This is because of its catchy tune and amicable lyrics. The song was also turned into several remixes and many artists made fan covers as well. YouTube practically became a mine of Heavy Metal, acoustic, reverb, and even bagpipe variations. In fact, some of these renditions were received so well they began ranking in the top UK and Australian singles charts.

Henry Cavill is warning the fans over this comical idea

Only recently, Henry Cavill appeared on BBC Radio 1 to promote the scheduled release of Netflix’s The Witcher Season 2. There is one interesting segment in the show where Cavill goes through many hilarious comments made on social media. One of these comments says, “I feel sorry for Henry Cavill. For the rest of his life, wherever he goes, people will toss coins at him.” In conversation, the hosts ask Cavill if he has ever experienced this, and Cavill answers by saying that “no one [has] yet.” However, the actor sent out a casual warning to anyone considering doing the act. This is what the actor said in response:

“No one yet, but, I mean, watch this space. Also, don’t throw anything at me. I’ll throw it back.”

Fans often intermingle the lines between fiction and reality.

Fortunately enough, and according to Cavill’s comment, not a single soul has dared toss a coin at the actor in the streets. However humorous the idea may seem, doing so would slightly be crossing a line. Frequently, devoted fans often abandon the borders between fiction and reality. Even in the past, some actors have received real-life treatment like the characters they play on-screen.

For instance, take Lena Headey, who played the villainous Cersei Lannister in Game of Thrones. The actress once opened up about how fans have sometimes tried to ignore her in public wilfully. They have pretended to be cautious, “as if I was going to curse them,” says the actress. Moreover, Emma Watson also mentioned how it was uncomfortable hanging out with fellow university students. Because they constantly made Harry Potter references to her during her studies.

Also, Henry Cavill looks like one intimidating fellow. His impressionable personality, paired with his status, would scare the fans. So it is likely that we will never know how the actor will react if they did try to toss a coin at him. The Witcher Season 2 is now streaming on Netflix. And season three is officially in the works, which leads us to believe that there is a lot of scope for more of Jaskier’s fun tunes ruling the internet. Maybe one of them will even overpower the season one hit. Now that Henry Cavill has openly warned anyone even considering the idea, fans of The Witcher probably have given up on wanting to toss a coin to their beloved monster hunter.
