There are many loved couples in the MCU. In the last 10 years, the MCU has created a universe where comic book heroes fight spectacular battles against villains that frequently threaten the very fabric of reality. Yet, emotions are essential to every tale, and not every story has to revolve around conflict.
Despite the MCU’s lack of a dedicated romance subgenre, the series does have its share of touching love tales. Some of these stories don’t have happy endings, but the complexity they bring to the protagonists and antagonists makes them all the more unforgettable. Here are the 5 most loved couples in the MCU.
#5 Doctor Strange and Christine Palmer
The fact that Strange is never the central center of the story in Multiverse of Madness is one of the many ways in which it fails to do justice to the connection between Strange and Christine. Although it is not a major plot point, Stephen’s feelings for Christine are still there throughout the film. Ten minutes is all we get to spend with Strange’s 616 universe version of Christine Palmer.
Resurrecting her destroys his world, and he can only watch helplessly as she dissolves in his arms once again. This incarnation of Doctor Strange, however, is promised to return in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. It’s possible he’s looking for a replacement for Christine, and if he succeeds, his obsession with her might spell disaster for the whole globe.
#4 Carter and Peggy
Peggy Carter and Steve Rogers’ relationship is undeniably one of the MCU’s most memorable love stories. Prior to Steve’s transformation into Captain America, the two have a spark, but they have eventually torn apart when Steve is compelled to wreck his aircraft into the ice. After her second marriage, Peggy has an odd friendship with her great-niece Sharon in the current day.
Steve leaves the present and begins a new life with Peggy in the past in Avengers: Endgame. After Peggy’s death, he abandons the world he helped build with his choice. Fans are upset with the premise because they believe Steve cheated Peggy out of her life’s arc. Others continue to doubt the depth of Steve and Peggy’s bond. Despite the complications, Steve’s genuine love is unquestionably Peggy.
#3 Tony And Pepper
Although Steve and Peggy’s romance has been going strong for longer, the on-screen debut of Tony Stark and Pepper Potts’ courtship was the first in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. While their friendship is established early on in the Iron Man films, their romantic intimacy has had its share of challenges.
There are times when Pepper and Tony appear to be permanently over each other because Pepper just can’t tolerate Tony wearing the Iron Man suit. However, fate has ultimately brought them together. After the events of Infinity War, Tony proposes to Pepper and they go on to have a daughter together. Unfortunately, their joy would only last a few years, as Tony would have to give his life to save Thanos from destroying the universe.
#2 Thor And Jane Foster
Thor and Dr. Jane Foster’s romance may not have been the most exciting storyline in the MCU, but it was one of the longest-running relationships up until its abrupt termination in Thor: Ragnarok. Although they didn’t have much in common, they eventually fell in love because of the events they experienced when Jane found Thor and helped him travel back to Asgard.
Jane is mentioned in passing in a fairly abrupt throwaway remark in Thor: Ragnarok, in which he claims defensively that he was the one to leave her. The circumstances surrounding their breakup are left unsaid. Even in the MCU’s worst movies, they were a nice pair. Unfortunately, unlike other loved couples in the MCU, their relationship was never given the attention and growth it deserved.
#1 Clint And Laura Barton
While Hawkeye isn’t necessarily the perfect character in the MCU, his wife Laura Barton who only made short cameos in Age of Ultron and Endgame, proved that love conquers all. Their romance gets significantly more action in the Disney+ series Hawkeye. Former SHIELD agent Laura eventually marries fellow agent Clint.
Even when she retires, Laura continues to cheer for her husband at work. Laura still doesn’t hold Clint’s time as Ronin against him, even though she’s been told the truth. The two are a wonderful fit, and their relationship is founded on confidence and acquaintance.
