The finale of The Book of Boba Fett was filled to the brim with amazing action. There were a tonne of moments that made fans squeal with surprise. Overall, the finale was a satisfying conclusion for Temeura Morrison’s titular character.
And thankfully, one of the other satisfying things it did was finally solve a huge Sequel Trilogy issue. In the seven episodes of the show, there were at least two entire episodes completely devoted to Din Djarin.
In fact, these episodes made the Boba Fett show earn the title of The Mandalorian 2.5. And it definitely set the path for season 3 of The Mandalorian. In completing Din Djarin’s mini-arc, the show also saved the Sequel Trilogy from more problems.
In episode 7 we got to know Grogu had chosen to leave Luke Skywalker’s tutelage and go back to Din Djarin. This was after the Jedi Master told him to choose between the Mandalorian armor and Yoda’s lightsaber.
So Grogu’s decision ensures that he won’t be at Luke’s academy when Kylo Ren goes on his rampage. As a result, he escaped with his life intact. And this was a good decision by the creative team because it would have upset fans if Grogu had died.
Not to mention that it would have been a nightmare also from a logistical standpoint. After all, not only would Grogu’s death have been tragic, but it would also have happened off-screen.
And in doing this, it would have done a major disservice to the character. Since Grogu isn’t ever mentioned when Kylo Ren carries out the Jedi massacre so the Sequel movies would look worse for ignoring him.
It’s a smart and logical story choice to have Grogu leave the academy before he becomes Luke’s first student. As such, there are no eventual lingering questions left that need to get answered in the Sequel Trilogy.
It’s truly a great way to preserve the Star Wars timeline. Now, it’s possible that Grogu will meet Luke again in season 3 of The Mandalorian. After all, many fans thought that Luke’s ultimatum to Grogu was largely unfair.
Who knows, as Lucasfilm gets better at digitally de-aging Mark Hamill, we might get to see Luke get his own Disney+ show down the line. Or maybe they can cast another actor in the role.
Either way, this would allow us to see the Jedi Academy massacre as well as maybe meet Grogu again. But until then, it’s a relief that The Book of Boba Fett didn’t kill off the cutest Star Wars character ever.
