When Marvel Studios returns to theaters in a few weeks with Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, it’s already turning into an MCU mega-event. Doctor Strange 2 is establishing a level of excitement unmatched outside of Avengers team-up movies, thanks to a slew of character rumors and confirmations from across the Multiverse.

In total, Phase 4 will have produced 11 films, the fifth of which, Spider-Man: Homecoming, will usher in the Multiversal floodgates. Doctor Strange 2 could be the biggest solo movie in the Marvel Cinematic Universe if it includes Patrick Stewart’s Professor X from the X-Men films, as well as the most powerful characters already seen in the MCU.

There is so much material to cover, many believe that this film will have to be one of the MCU’s longest yet in terms of running time to adequately cover so many storylines. It appears that fans will get exactly what they want in terms of runtime, according to the most recent reports.

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, from Marvel Studios, has a 148-minute runtime, according to Brazilian ticketing website Ingresso.

Second only to 2021’s Spider-Man: No Way Home, this would be the second-longest Phase 4 movie at 2 hours and 28 minutes. In addition, this would be the fourth-longest MCU film, following Avengers: Endgame, Eternals, and Infinity War.

The following is a list of all MCU runtimes, organized by date of release:

  • Iron Man – 2 hours, 6 minutes
  • The Incredible Hulk – 1 hour, 52 minutes
  • Iron Man 2 – 2 hours, 4 minutes
  • Thor – 1 hour, 55 minutes
  • Captain America: The First Avenger – 2 hours, 4 minutes
  • The Avengers – 2 hours, 23 minutes

Is Doctor Strange 2 Lengthy enough?

Doctor Strange

It’s no surprise that Doctor Strange’s solo sequel is currently one of the five longest MCU films ever made, given how many characters and storylines are set to appear on screen.

In 2016, the first Doctor Strange movie starring Benedict Cumberbatch ran only 115 minutes, which is over 30 minutes shorter than the Multiversal sequel, which will be released in just over a month. It was almost inevitable that the sequel’s running time would increase exponentially now that the good doctor was the star of a film with potentially dozens of other major players.

The question now is whether or not the reported runtime will increase or decrease before its May 6 release. Since Eternals and Spider-Man: No Way Home both had their final on-screen runtimes trimmed by more than 10 minutes, fans should know that this 2:28:00 listed time for Doctor Strange 2 isn’t 100% accurate. Fans of the MCU should buckle up for a roller coaster ride into the Multiverse, no matter how long the final runtime is.
