Marvel Studios is constantly expanding it’s interesting arena of new characters through the current Phase 4. The many new features include the Eternals, Shang-Chi, Yelena Belova, and Kate Bishop. And although the production seems quite packed with the upcoming slate of new characters, the MCU isn’t going to forget mainstays like James Gunn’s Guardians of the Galaxy. The Guardians are preparing for their next appearance in 2022’s Thor: Love and Thunder. As well as an undisclosed upcoming holiday special. But that’s not all. James Gunn is out to conclude the fan-favorite trilogy with 2023’s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.
The last time fans saw their beloved group of misfits, they were flying off with Thor on Benatar. Peter Quill was hung up on the idea of finding the 2014 version of Gamora from Avengers: Endgame. But because this Gamora has no recollection of a past spent with Quill and his crew, she will probably portray more of her character like it was in the first Guardians of the Galaxy film. In contrast to her latest personality in Infinity War.
James Gunn has started the process of filming Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. And every now and then, fans win the privilege of learning newer details about the exciting threequel. And as news has it, this Gamora will be exceptionally distinct in appearance from her previous version.
Actress Zoe Saldana, who plays Gamora in the MCU, recently got on Instagram and shared a new picture of herself in her character’s makeup. Her caption reads as follows:
“Gamora felt cute! #nofilter”
We have noticed here that her makeup for the upcoming film is slightly, but visibly, different from how audiences last saw her in Avengers: Endgame.
Clearly, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 Gamora looks more stunning, as if it were even possible. A noticeable addition to her features is the new golden-yellow eyeshadow.
The feature is strikingly in contrast to her previous appearances in the Guardians films. As well as in Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame. However, the yellow eyeshadow has a resemblance to her character’s portrayal in the comics.
It is true that everything James Gunn and Marvel Studios are planning for Guardians of the Galaxy 3 is still a huge secret. But keen fans have found themselves during some interesting details.
While the film is set to give Will Poulter’s Adam Warlock his big MCU debut, there are some members of the team who have revealed an insight. It is expected that Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 will highlight the stories of the daughters of Thanos. Meaning Zoe Saldana’s Gamora and Karen Gillan’s Nebula.
The two sisters have always shared a complicated relationship. And their distant dynamic has intrigued fans in all the Guardians films so far. While Avengers: Endgame saw 2014’s Gamora and Nebula work together against all odds, fans are curious to see how things will play out now. Especially because Thanos has exited the MCU for good and Nebula’s Endgame narrative barely saw a definitive end.
With that said, some insights revealed by Gunn and the rest of the cast point towards the fact that the film will be quite overwhelming. In fact, Karen Gillan even said that the script made her very emotional. These comments are making fans wonder whether all the Guardians will even make it to the end of the movie.
Considering Gamora’s new makeup in Vol. 3, it is also important to look back on the fact that even the 2014 version of Nebula owned a visibly distinguished appearance than her prime self in Avengers: Endgame. Not only that, the 2014 version of Nebula, who was super devoted to Thanos, had swapped her future self’s head plate to fool the Avengers.
So this new makeup is not just a subtle acknowledgement to the character’s comic version. But a hint suggesting that 2014’s Gamora is different from her former self?
For now, we are going to have to wait for James Gunn and the cast to reveal more details about the film in the future. At least until Quill and the gang appear in Thor: Love and Thunder.
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is set to release on May 5, 2023.
