Chloé Zhao’s film introduces the newest members of the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s superhero squad. An almost indestructible race known as “Eternals” was created by Celestials to protect humanity from Deviants. However, despite their power, they could have used some assistance in dealing with the Emergence.

What brought the Eternals together?

The Eternals have been here for a long time, and they’re still here. Only when they were forbidden from interfering in human affairs did they keep to themselves and blend in. Because of this, when Thanos threatened the universe with the Infinity Stones, they didn’t do anything about it.

When they decided to separate after centuries of working together, the Eternals led different lives. Besides some of them staying in touch, they were all on their own. However, when the Deviants re-emerged, the team was forced to re-assemble because of their significant evolution.

The first major Deviant attack in Eternals occurred in London. Sersi and Sprite, returning from Dane Whitman’s birthday party, were ambushed. Fortunately, Ikaris arrived in the nick of time to save them. They managed to flee the scene before police arrived, but it was widely publicized. Since then, most of the film’s action scenes, including the third-act battle, have been in secluded locations. In any event, the first incident in a major global city should have prompted the Avengers to investigate, so why didn’t they?

Why didn’t the Avengers show up?

Doctor Strange Avengers Leader

Eternals takes place eight months after the events of Avengers: Endgame to give you some background. At this time, Spider-Man: Far From Home, which featured some of the MCU’s most famous characters, was released. When Thor and Captain Marvel appeared in the 2019 Jon Watts film, they were both off-world. Dr. Strange was unable to join. He was already coping with Mysterio and the Elemantals’ deception when Peter Parker approached him. However, Scarlet Witch may still be isolated following WandaVision.

Sam Wilson’s supposed to be Captain America, has vanished, leaving his whereabouts a mystery. After Avengers: Endgame, The Falcon, and the Winter Soldier’s events occur six months later. He may be preoccupied with his work with Bucky Barnes in the United States. Another hero whose activities are unknown at the Eternals’ Emergence is Rhodey/War Machine. Armor Wars may be taking up a lot of his time, so that he may be preoccupied with those issues.

The MCU flaw is becoming more visible.

Bruce Banner in Sang-chi

It’s worth noting that the Avengers’ official status is still up in the air at this time. It was revealed in the post-credits scene of Shang-Chi and The Legend of the Ten Rings that Marvel superheroes such as Captain Marvel and Bruce Banner/Hulk are in constant communication with Doctor Strange. Even though nothing wrong came out of the Emergence, it’s possible that everyone was just too busy with Spider-Man: Far From Home and Eternals to get involved with Destin Cretton and Simu Liu’s film.

Separating the various stories in the Marvel Cinematic Universe is becoming more and more difficult as the universe grows. Many of the same questions plagued Phase 2 films like Iron Man 3 and Captain America: The Winter Soldier, especially after the first team-up of Earth’s Mightiest Heroes in The Avengers. Those inquiries remain unanswered in terms of an official explanation. As long as Eternals does not explicitly reveal where the other MCU heroes are during a standalone story, the same questions will continue to arise afterward.
