In the final moments of the Spider-Man: NWH trailer, we see Doctor Strange attempting to thwart. No Way Home’s second trailer confirms that Doctor Octopus and Green Goblin aren’t the only characters from another universe making an appearance in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
They will be joined by Electro, Sandman, and Lizard when they face Spider-Man again. The multiverse’s vengeance against the wall-crawler appears to be just the beginning of the chaos it will bring to the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Several factors have shattered the multiverse. Phase 4 of the Nexus began with Scarlet Witch unleashing her power on Westview during WandaVision. Afterwards, Loki revealed that Sylvie had killed He Who Remains not long after the “threshold” he had been anticipating his entire life had been crossed. Spider-Man’s most feared foes are now part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe thanks to Doctor Strange’s botched spell to help Peter Parker recoup his secret identity.
It’s strange to see Peter Parker sympathizing with the multiverse’s Sinister Six when he tries to learn that they’re all going to die at the hands of their Spider-Men. Dr Strange can recover the magical box Spider-Man stole from Peter Parker during the journey, but Spider-Man does not return it. Any way you look at it, Spider-Man will face off against villains at the Statue of Liberty, where Dr Strange attempts to contain the collapse of the multiverse as Spider-Man is warned that “they’re starting to come through.
” At the beginning of the final battle, the redesigned Green Goblin and his cohorts come back from their alternate dimensions, where Dr Strange briefly sent them back. This is the most likely scenario.
There are, of course, alternate explanations for the multiverse’s split. There is a striking resemblance between the multiverse cracks in the Spider-Man: No Way Home trailer and the Sacred Timeline in Loki, which broke just before He Who Remains died. If the Spider-Men (Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield) and other villains (Venom and Rhino) show up to help Tom Holland, it could set up the events of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.
This is where Strange must leave to save the multiverse from collapsing, or it could simply be an exciting moment for Spidey. When Spider-Man faces Electro, Sandman, and Lizard in the NWH trailer, Strange is nowhere to be seen, and Spidey needs to be free of any mentor at this point so he can wrap up the conflict on his own.
When it comes to dealing with the dangers of the multiverse, Doctor Strange is the best person for the job. The sorcerer has every right to be concerned about what Spider-Man’s battle with his multiversal foes will do to the MCU. It’s still the perfect time for Spider-Man: No Way Home and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness to shine for Peter Parker and Dr Strange, respectively.
