We expect superheroes to always make the right decisions. After all, they are burdened with saving the world. However, in the MCU there are times when they have acted rashly. Here are times superheroes made dumb decisions and had to face the consequences.

1. Peter Quill punches Thanos

During the fight with Thanos on Titan, the Guardians along with Iron Man, Spider-Man and Dr. Strange managed to subdue Thanos. Mantis put him to sleep while the others pulled off the gauntlet. However, after finding out about the death of Gamora, Quill lost his calm and punched Thanos. This caused Mantis to fall and gave Thanos the opportunity to recover. Fans have been raging over this decision for a while now, claiming that its the dumbest decision in the MCU.

2. Tony Stark created Ultron

This decision definitely resulted in devastating consequences. Tony and Bruce created Ultron using the decrypted code obtained from the Mind Stone within Loki’s scepter. Ultron developed his own consciousness and decided to decimate humanity and drive them to extinction. This finally caused the destruction of Sokovia and the death of several people.

3. Wanda creating the Hex

With her destructive capabilities, Wanda should definitely have been more careful. It’s already known that her emotions can cause a release of immense energy. This wasn’t exactly a decision but shouldn’t have happened nonetheless. Wanda ended up holding an entire town hostage. The events of Dr. Strange Multiverse of Madness however will not make the list as by then Wanda wasn’t a hero anymore and had already made her transition into a villain.

4. Drax calls Ronan to Knowhere

This was a decision driven by ego and revenge. Drax wanted to avenge his wife and daughter and thought he could take on Ronan all by himself. The Guardians were there with the Power Stone to give it to The Collector. However, as Ronan and his army reached Knowhere and easily defeated Drax and the Guardians, they managed to take the orb. This allowed Ronan to get his hands on the power stone, all because of a drunken mistake by Drax.

5. Dr. Strange breaks the multiverse

Stephen Strange is inherently quite irresponsible and rash. Without thinking about the consequences, he casts the spell to make the world forget Spider-Man’s identity. However, Peter Parker keeps interrupting the spell and it gets out of hand. This creates a rip between universes and causes havoc during No Way Home. Nonetheless, this allowed the MCU to explore the Multiverse

6. Giving the Collector an Infinity Stone

Thor isn’t exactly known for being the most responsible. This was probably one of his dumber decisions. Thor gave the Aether which was the Reality Stone to The Collector, Taneleer Tivan for safekeeping. While it was smart to not keep it on Asgard as the Tesseract containing the Space Stone was already there. Giving it to The Collector for safekeeping wasn’t smart at all.

7. Loki takes the Tesseract from Asgard

When Asgard was being destroyed by Surtur, Loki managed to sneak away the Tesseract and take it with him to the Statesman. We see the consequences of this careless decision in the very first scene of Infinity Wars. Thanos destroys the ship and wipes out half the Asgardian population on board to retrieve the Space Stone from Loki. The Tesseract was the only reason that Thanos ever went after the Statesman.

8. Peter parker trusts Mysterio with Edith

After the death of Tony Stark, Peter inherited the pair of sunglasses which gave him access to thousands of drones with immense capacity for destruction. Peter Parker was afraid and full of self doubt and thought it was the best decision. Mysterio used the drones and the A.I. to attack London. This eventually led to the revelation of Spider-Man’s identity to the world and indirectly cause the events of No Way Home.

9. Gamora goes after Thanos herself

In Infinity Wars, Gamora knew the location of the Soul Stone and how to reach it. She was ready to sacrifice herself to keep that information out of Thanos’ reach. However, she went after Thanos herself hoping to kill him. Considering how valuable her information was, it would’ve been better if she hid somewhere or went as far away as possible. Going to face Thanos herself, giving him the opportunity to hold Gamora captive seems like an extremely dumb decision.

10. Doctor strange uses the mirror dimension against Kaecilius

Doctor Strange was extremely new to the mystical world of magic and sorcerers. Thus taking on Kaecilius and using the mirror dimension against him was an extremely careless decision. Kaecilius revealed that his abilities were enhanced in the mirror dimension due to his association with Dormammu. This led to the death of The Ancient One who was the Sorcerer Supreme in the MCU.

There are lots of other situations where heroes in the MCU did not have their wits about them while making decisions. For example the entirety of Civil War was just bad decision after bad decision. Hey after all they’re just human and bound to make mistakes!
