The mysterious High Evolutionary, who will be played by Chukwudi Iwuji, was announced as the villain of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, the third instalment in director James Gunn’s Guardians trilogy, during Comic-Con International: San Diego 2022.

We now have a clearer look at the antagonist in action in the first official trailer for Guardians 3.

But instead of just being a cosmic threat, the High Evolutionary truly relates to almost every aspect of the Marvel Universe, unlike the villains of the previous two Guardians movies. Born on Earth, the High Evolutionary has had direct contact with everyone from the Avengers to the X-Men. Even though he never presented as great a threat as Thanos, he has left his mark on the universe.

The supervillain of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 might have already experimented on Rocket, according to new movie footage.

The High Evolutionary, played by Chukwudi Iwuji, is a Marvel comic book supervillain with a history of torture and experimentation.
While the visuals of a baby Rocket before he had been subjected to experimentation in the Vol. 3 trailer hinted to Rocket’s own connection with the High Evolutionary, the movie may delve deeper into the villain’s previous misdeeds.

Lylla, a friend of Rocket’s who was referenced in the original Guardians of the Galaxy and who looks to have been yet another of the High Evolutionary’s test subjects, has also been seen for the first time in the trailer.

The whole point of Adam Warlock is that he is meant to be the perfect hero, which of course heightened the High Evolutionary’s ambition for perfection. After they met, he treated Warlock as if he was his own son, giving him the soul stone, which Warlock thereafter proudly wore in the centre of his forehead.

Their relationship deteriorated over time as Warlock became more well-known and High Evolutionary continued to be a lunatic. The High Evolutionary has continued to be a recurring rival of almost every major Marvel team, even though he is now controlling a planet in space, hardly resembling a human anymore as a result of his own experimentation on himself. But due to his relationship with Warlock and a particular raccoon with a weapon, he usually faces off against the Guardians of the Galaxy.

With all that history and possibilities, we’ll have to wait and watch how everything develops until Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 arrives in May 2023.
