Emma D’Arcy, like their House of the Dragon character, is very lovable. In HOTD, Rhaenyra Targaryen is among the most popular television characters in the HBO series House of the Dragon. Fans have been rooting for Rhaenyra since the show’s beginning and would be highly disappointed in George R. R. Martin if she dies.

Emma D’Arcy, the actress who plays Rhaenyra in the show, has been getting a lot of attention lately, both in the media and from their newly made fans on social media. Speaking of social media, D’Arcy’s Instagram bio mentions the proper pronouns by which Emma would like to be referred, and that is ‘they/them,’ meaning that the actress (or actor) considers themself to be non-binary.

Here’s What Emma D’Arcy Told Her Fan On A Phone Call

Emma D’Arcy opens up about being non-binary publicly during a five-minute phone call with a fan. They say it was only after getting the part in House of the Dragon that they discussed their gender identity, partly because HBO had explicitly asked them what pronouns they use. Here’s what they told their fan,

“This is the first job in which I’ve brought my nonbinary identity to work. And part of that was because HBO asked me what pronouns I use, and I thought a lot about whether this was the right time.”

Emma continues to say that they believed earlier that to be an actor, one must be cisgender (or straight). Emma D’Arcy says:

“Typically, within casting sites, there are two columns (in an auditioning form), and I wondered if those two identities were going to have to live separately in order for me to have a career.”

D’Arcy also believes, as revealed in their phone call with the fan, that young people need to know that there is space in the film industry for everybody and that room is opening up.

How Not Watching Game of Thrones Helped Emma To Audition for House of the Dragon

Emma does not deny not knowing about Game of Thrones; they even regard it as a ‘cultural phenomenon.’ D’Arcy justifies themself by saying that they haven’t been living under a rock and Game of Thrones was always in their peripheral awareness.

During the phone call, the fan asks Emma about their relationship with Game of Thrones, to which Emma replies,

“I hadn’t seen it before I auditioned, which I honestly think is the only reason I’m able to do the job. There’s no way I’d have made it through the audition process if, at that time, I had the love for the show that I have now.”

D’Arcy believes that they must have melted under pressure if they had already been a fan of the original Game of Thrones.
