House of the Dragon Deleted Scene Reveals What Does Daemon Know About The Song of Ice and Fire

Daemon did not answer Rhaenyra’s question about The Song of Ice and Fire. Daemon may know about it by the House of the Dragon cutscene.

Daemon Targaryen reacted oddly when Rhaenyra asked him about the song of ice and fire. Daemon’s reaction of smirking and leaving without an answer indicates that Rhaenyra’s question of whether Viserys ever told Daemon about the song of ice and fire offended his ego. Which is why he may have left the scene.

Though George R.R. Martin’s work Fire & Blood provides enough political and individual reasons for the green council to reject Rhaenyra’s succession claim, House of the Dragon adds a new dimension. King Viserys informs Alicent about the Song of Ice and Fire and Aegon The Conqueror’s dream amid his dying moments, and she misunderstands his words to suggest that he is declaring his son Aegon, the next king of the seven kingdoms. But did he tell Daemon?

Daemon Does Not Know The Real Meaning

Only a Targaryen King’s heir receives this prophecy. However, Paddy Considine, who portrayed King Viserys in House of the Dragon, said that a scene in which Viserys attempted to inform Daemon of the prophecy was shot. In a deleted scene from House of the Dragon, Viserys tries telling Daemon about the real enemy, whom even Viserys doesn’t seem to know about. At this moment, King Viserys sought to test Daemon’s sense of duty. He needed to see if informing his brother would bring out a sense of responsibility from Daemon or not.

Although we can assume that even if the cut-scene did not make it in House of the Dragon, Viserys tried telling Daemon about the song of ice and fire. As it was only to test the waters of Daemon’s responsibility towards the realm, Viserys may not have revealed it all.

What Did Paddy Considine Say About Daemon?

The show considered the notion of Viserys telling Daemon about the prophecy; they even attempted to shoot a sequence in which the king gently evaluated if his brother was prepared for the revelation. Hence, we can guess that Daemon never got to know the true meaning of the catspaw dagger.

In an interview, Paddy Considine said,

“That’s something that we struggled with. There was a scene that was deleted after Aemma (Sian Brooke) died, where Viserys meets with Daemon and he tries to hint at this idea of prophecies and what the gods mean to him. He was trying to get some idea where Daemon’s at with his beliefs, but the tone of the scene was never quite right. There’s no way that Daemon would even connect to that — he’d laugh Viserys out of the room. He’s not into dreamers or things like that.”

Now that King Viserys has died, any inquiries about how he may have avoided the Dance of the Dragons are just speculation. Civil war is on its way, especially now with Lucerys’s death, and by the looks of it, only Rhaenyra knows the actual truth.
