House of the Dragon season 1 episode 10 director Greg Yaitanes has revealed that Initially, Rhaenyra was going to be in the Dragonstone Throne Room and sitting on the throne. Then Daemon would come to tell her the devastating news of her son’s death.

As you can see in the above storyboard, she was going to scream and then turn to look at the camera. Right then, we would see her dragon Syrax coming out from the darkness. That would have closed the season.

Why Was This Scene Deleted From The Season Finale?

Apparently, the production crew of House of the Dragon couldn’t build the set on time, so they changed the scene into what we saw. Instead of the throne room, Daemon and Rhaenyra were in front of the fireplace.

Also, there’s no shot of Rhaenyra’s dragon, Syrax, at the end, and neither does she scream out upon hearing the news of her son’s death. Fans would have loved to see the Throne Room and Syrax, but this change may have been for the best.

Viewers loved Rhaenyra’s silent staring at the camera and the symbolism of the fire burning behind her. Her emotions are clear without her having to speak a single word. That was the perfect ending to the season.

Do you think the initial finale ending scene was better? Or the one we saw in the aired finale?
