The Targaryen civil war is about to start in season 2 of “House of the Dragon.” In the final episode of season 1 we saw Lucerys’ death and irrespective of whether his death was accidental or not, this is the tipping point that is going to make Rhaenyra and Daemon ultimately decide to retaliate against Queen Alicent and her supporters. The Blacks are going to make their first attack with the help of two assassins known as Blood and Cheese. And as per a House of the Dragon writer, those two will indeed be there in season 2.

House of the Dragon writer Sara Hess has confirmed in a Variety interview that season 2 will introduce the deadly assassins known as Blood and Cheese. She also said that viewers won’t be disappointed with what they have planned to do with the duo. As for how far along the writers room is regarding season 2, Hess said in a Variety interview one month ago that they were writing the season 2 finale.

In G.R.R. Martin’s “Fire and Blood” book, Mysaria hires Blood And Cheese to infiltrate Queen Alicent Hightower‘s Red Keep and kill one male from her family. As Daemon said, “An eye for an eye, a son for a son,” so the two go after one of Aegon II Targaryen’s sons. They encounter Helaena Targaryen (Aegon II’s wife and sister) with her three children, Prince Jaehaerys, Prince Maelor, and Princess Jaehaera.

Blood and Cheese tell her that she will get to choose which of her sons they kill. Initially Helaena offers herself up. But the two assassins demand she choose or they will sexually assault Jaehaera. So she offers up her youngest son Maelor. But Blood and Cheese don’t kill him. Instead they kill her eldest son and heir to the throne, Jaehaerys instead. He is only six-years-old when he gets murdered.

The duo then flee with the head of the prince. This incident causes Helaena to ultimately commit suicide because she punishes herself for choosing Maelor. Till her death, she could barely look at him. In G.R.R.M’s books, Blood and Cheese’s names are never revealed as he states that they have been lost to time.
