HBO’s prequel to ‘Game of Thrones‘, ‘House of the Dragon’, has been renewed for its second season. While fans have to wait a bit longer for the next installment, here is what we know about Season 2 so far.
Premiere Date
The second season of ‘House of the Dragon‘ will not be premiering until 2024, according to Casey Bloys, the chief content officer of HBO and HBO Max. The show may also miss the 2024 Emmy Awards deadline.
Showrunners
Ryan Condal is the sole showrunner for Season 2 after Miguel Sapochnik’s exit. Veteran director Alan Taylor has joined the production to serve as an executive producer and helm some episodes.
The narrative pace will accelerate in Season 2 as the Targaryen civil war known as the “Dance of the Dragons” has begun in earnest. Expect more action and less character-building.
The show will “expand its scope” to new lands and locations, including some that were not seen in the original ‘Game of Thrones’ series.
Blood And Cheese Plotline
The book’s infamous “Blood and Cheese” plot line is expected to play out on screen, according to House of the Dragon writer Sara Hess. The storyline involves a revenge scheme against Alicent for the death of Rhaenyra’s son.
Cregan Stark And Daeron Targaryen
The show will introduce Cregan Stark, head of House Stark and Lord of Winterfell. Daeron Targaryen, Alicent’s fourth child, will also make an appearance when relevant to the storyline.
New Dragons
Five new dragons will be introduced in Season 2, according to showrunner Ryan Condal.
Season 3
The show will likely be renewed for a third season, given the high ratings of the premiere. According to George R. R. Martin, the show will need four full seasons of 10 episodes each to cover the entirety of the Dance of the Dragons.
