Andor has been receiving praise all across the board from fans and critics alike for its masterful storytelling. Many Star Wars fans even feel that it’s the best Star Wars outing since the Original Trilogy and even lifts the original up to be better than before. How? That’s what we are here to discuss.

Andor Details The Sacrifices The Rebellion Made

Andor is a unique Star Wars show because of its laser focus on detailing the brutality of the Empire and how the rebellion came to be inspite of it. It tells us what had to be sacrificed by many to make the rebellion work.

It showed us that normal people led precarious, unglamorous lives that could be snuffed out at any moment by the Empire to give the rebellion a chance of succeeding. The show makes us appreciate the background fighters who never got their due in Star Wars.

In fact, it punches viewers in the gut with the sacrifices. In Episode 10, Luthen Rael says to Lonni about sacrifice:

“What is my sacrifice?

I’m condemned to use the tools of my enemy to defeat them. I burn my decency for someone else’s future. I burn my life to make a sunrise that I know I’ll never see.”

And we see that immolation in episode 10 itself when Kino Loy leads the prison charge even though he knows that he can’t swim. He knows that if he jumps into the waters he will drown and if he stays back then he will face torture and possibly death.

But he does it either way because he has seen that putting your head down and just existing won’t work under the Empire. This is because they slave the captured to death while giving them hope of a freedom that will never come.

It Shows Us That Normal People Choosing To Do Right Made The Difference

Andor also showed us that normal everyday people turned heroes not because there was a prophecy made that they are the chosen one, but because they did the right thing and chose to dedicate their lives for a greater purpose.

These sacrifices and deaths all culminated into one single point moment of high stakes where Luke Skywalker destroyed the Death Star. He dealt the blow to the Empire that the rebellion had only dreamt of till then. And none of it would have been possible without the sacrifices of the rebels before him.

Also, by grounding the show away from lightsabers, Jedis, and aliens, the show made fans of the galaxy far far away consider everything it took to actually fight the oppression of the Empire.

Rogue One told the story of a common person’s contribution to the Rebellion’s victory and Andor is doing the same. Thus, adding weight to scenes and moments in the Original Trilogy that we have come to love. And this is how Andor is uplifting the Original Star Wars Trilogy.
