DC has filmed a screen test for GOTG 3, says James Gunn. As anyone who has worked in film knows, the last few years have been anything but smooth sailing. DC Films hired him after he was fired from the MCU to direct The Suicide Squad, which resulted in HBO’s Peacemaker spin-off series. But he was also rehired by Disney to complete the Guardians of the Galaxy trilogy while working for Warner Bros.

Gunn has never been busier than he is right now, working on two of the biggest superhero franchises. Peacemaker was currently airing on HBO Max at the time of his filming for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, and he was just about to begin principal photography on that film’s sequel. The Suicide Squad spin-off filming and pre-production did, however, overlap for a time. It was fortunate that both DC and Marvel were ready to work together to assist Gunn.

According to Gunn’s interview with Variety, while directing Peacemaker, DC shot Chukwudi Iwuji’s screen test for GOTG 3. It is confirmed that the actor will appear in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 but in an unspecified capacity. After Marvel filmed Ezra Miller’s unexpected cameo in Peacemaker, DC filmed Ezra Miller’s cameo in The Punisher:

Actually, Marvel shot [Ezra] for us, while we’re shooting “Guardians Vol. 3″[…]Marvel owed DC, because the “Peacemaker” crew shot my screen test for Chukwudi for “Guardians Vol. 3.” And then we got Ezra with the “Guardians Vol. 3” crew.

 As The Main Villain?

is rumored to be playing the main villain in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, but the actor has refused to reveal his character’s name. According to the man who played Clemson Murn in Peacemaker, it’s going to be a completely new role for him in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. There is a good chance that DC employees are aware of this massive secret, and it’s interesting that the public may not be aware of it for some time. Even though Marvel Studios and DC Films are frequently pitted against each other, this is further evidence that there is no animosity between the two companies. It’s all just a friendly game of chess.

It’s time for Gunn to focus solely on the upcoming May 2023 release date for The GOTG Vol. 3. The beloved galactic team’s third outing will mark the end of an era for the filmmaker. Furthermore, Gunn has hinted at a few deaths. This as well as Dave Bautista’s announcement that he will retire from the role of Drax after the film’s release. After the film, Gunn will return to DC to write and direct the entire second season of Peacemaker.
