Quicksilver’s absence from the MCU can’t be ignored forever, even if Doctor Strange 2 does not bring him back. After his death in Avengers: Age of Ultron, Quicksilver is one of the few major heroes the MCU has completely discarded. WandaVision managed to get Evan Peters to reprise his role as Quicksilver from Fox’s X-Men movies. Nonetheless, fans were let down when it was revealed that his character was Ralph Bohner, a random Westview resident.
With Evan Peters taking the lead role in Sony’s Kraven the Hunter, it’s also highly unlikely that Aaron Taylor-Quicksilver Johnson’s will ever return to the MCU. Doctor Strange 2’s Super Bowl trailer hinted at the return of Patrick Stewart’s Professor X. This is even though he is thought to have died in Logan. Charles Xavier’s return to the MCU implies that no character can be ruled out of the MCU.
Doctor Strange 2 must first work as a strong standalone story. This should be done even if the multiverse could justify the outlandish return of certain Marvel characters to it. Consequently, a Quicksilver variant is the most logical choice for a Quicksilver appearance in the Doctor Strange sequel. Pietro Maximoff was Wanda Maximoff’s only confidante after the death of her parents. As a result, his death marked Scarlet Witch’s transition from villain to hero.
After Ralph Bohner’s betrayal, Wanda feels compelled to seek out her brother. Wanda does so after being aware that reuniting with a version of her loved ones is theoretically possible. Wanda, Vision, Pietro, Billy, and Tommy Maximoff must exist somewhere in the multiverse of the MCU. Marvel’s refusal to acknowledge or bring back Quicksilver is becoming awkward. This is so in light of the return of characters from other Marvel franchises and the growing importance of Scarlet Witch in the MCU.
Even if Quicksilver doesn’t show up, the arrival of the MCU mutants can’t ignore the fact that Pietro and Wanda were mutant pioneers in Doctor Strange 2. This is so regardless of whether, or not they don’t appear in any form. There were just two survivors of the hydra’s experiments with the Mind Stone. Following this, WandaVision revealed that Wanda had already had dormant powers since childhood.
As Scarlet Witch’s twin brother, Quicksilver must possess the genetic code necessary for a successful mutation. The MCU’s first known mutants (and their enemies) will be eager to learn more about the Maximoffs and their powers. Even if they choose to adopt one of the many retcons to the Maximoff powers, both Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch would still be part of the conversation.
Regarding live-action Quicksilver, there are two distinct versions that could return. Even though one of them is dead and the other is a fake, the MCU already has the tools to bring them both back in Doctor Strange 2. It’s even possible for a new actor to take on the role of a different Quicksilver in the multiverse.
Marvel Studios has been actively ignoring Quicksilver’s potential. However, it will be more difficult for Marvel Studios to find reasons for not resurrecting Scarlet Witch’s nearly unassailable brother than to simply reintroduce one of the infinite Quicksilver versions that may exist out there.
