Samuel L Jackson’s Nick Fury has been acknowledged for both the Captain Marvel sequel, The Marvels, and the Disney+ original series, Secret Invasion, in addition to his fourth film as the original Avenger Thor.

It was revealed at the end of Spider-Man: Far From Home that Jackson’s Nick Fury was no longer a member of SHIELD. He was apparently being replaced on Earth by Ben Mendelsohn’s Talos, the Skrull from Captain Marvel.

Though his return in The Marvels is only fitting given his role in Captain Marvel, fans were hoping to see Fury in his most recent role on Disney+’s Secret Invasion. In addition to Captain Marvel 2 and his upcoming Disney+ show, it appears that Marvel Studios has even more plans for Jackson.

Ant-Man 3 To Feature Nick Fury?

Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania was filmed on the same production lot as The Marvels and Secret Invasion at the same time, according to Samuel L Jackson in an interview with Josh Horowitz on the Happy Sad Confused podcast.

While this is not confirmation that Jackson will reprise his role as Nick Fury in Ant-Man 3, the nearness and timeframe of the shoots in relation to two other Marvel Studios ventures suggest that Jackson could appear in all three Marvel projects:

“It used to take a while to make a movie. It still kind of does, but people make about two or three of them at the same time. In the Marvel universe, it’s crazy. When I was in London just now, there was Ant-Man and Captain Marvel 2 was happening and we were getting ready to do Secret Invasion. So it was like three Marvel movies on one lot. So I was kinda running around from place to place.”

Jackson pauses between “So it was like three Marvel movies on one lot” and “So I was kind of running around from place to place.” It’s possible that those two ideas are connected, but given Jackson’s delivery, it’s hard to say for sure.”

Currently scheduled for release on July 28, 2023, Ant-Man: Quantumania is Phase 4’s final movie. There will also be a cameo appearance by Kang the Conqueror, played by Jonathon Majors, who previously appeared in the first two Ant-Man films. Because of the MCU’s emphasis on alternate realities, timelines, and the Multiverse, Kang has the potential to be the next Thanos of the MCU.

Why Nick Fury’s Participation Makes Sense

To this day, no one knows for sure what Nick Fury has been up to since Avengers: Endgame. Further complicating matters, given Nick Fury’s penchant for secrecy, there is little chance that viewers will ever learn the full story at a single time.

Secret Invasion is the most likely place to learn about Carol Danvers and Fury’s relationship, even though The Marvels is expected to shed some light. Fury, on the other hand, is bound to have concerns given the show’s reputation as a paranoid spy thriller.

However, considering Kang’s potential as an Avengers-level threat, it’s plausible that a former director with “an idea” could be needed to bring together the Marvel veterans and the MCU’s newest heroes in Quantumania. In addition, a scene starring Jackson’s Fury, Rudd’s Scott Lang, and Michael Pena’s Luis is a must-see for any Marvel fan.
