House of the Dragon season 1 has now come to an end. The show has given us 10 amazing episodes with brilliant cinematography, great costumes and some very talented actors. There were several memorable moments in House of the Dragon and here we are counting down our pick of the 10 best moments of House of the Dragon season 1.
1. Rhaenys and Meleys crash Aegon’s coronation
House of the Dragon season 1 has given us many great empowered female characters. One such character is that of Princess Rhaenys Targaryen, The Queen Who Never Was. She fulfilled Princess Helaena’s prophecy by bursting out from under the Red Keep on board her dragon Meleys. She crashed Aegon’s coronation and gave a warning to the Hightowers and their green faction.
2. Daemon Targaryen takes on the Triarchy all by himself
This was a major turning point for Prince Daemon Targaryen. The audience fell in love with Matt Smith and greatly praised his acting ability. Without any dialogues or lines whatsoever, Matt Smith left his mark. Prince Daemon showed his military skills, bravery, and determination while also cementing himself as one of the most badass characters in House of the Dragon season 1.
3. Daemon and Rhaenyra get married in House of the Dragon season 1
There have been very few ships in House of the Dragon season 1 and the most popular one was that of Prince Daemon and Princess Rhaenyra. After several chemistry filled moments, they finally get married in a beautiful ceremony in front of their children.
4. Alicent declares her allegiance to the Hightowers with her green dress
One of the most stand out moments in the entire show was when Queen Alicent entered the Great Hall of the Red Keep wearing a bright green dress declaring her allegiance to the Hightowers. In fact, this is where the Greens and Blacks distinction began. She made her grand entrance to the wedding celebrations of Rhaenyra and Laenor and even interrupted King Viserys’ speech. Not only did Emilia Carrey look stunning she also left a lasting impact on the audience.
5. Daemon beheads Vaemond Velaryon
Both House of the Dragon season 1 and Game of Thrones have had their fair share of gory moments and bloody scenes. One such moment from House of the Dragon was when Prince Daemon Targaryen beheaded Vaemond Velaryon in open court. He killed him with one fell swoop of his sword Dark Sister as punishment for insulting his wife, Princess Rhaenyra and her sons. This scene also made audiences fawn over Matt Smith’s Prince Daemon Targaryen once again.
6. King Viserys stands up for his daughter
Paddy Considine was absolutely brilliant in the final episodes of House of the Dragon. His portrayal of King Viserys in his old sickly age was perfect and mesmerizing. Our favorite moment was when King Viserys mustered up all his remaining strength and walked himself to the Hall of the Red Keep to help Rhaenyra one last time. As he was walking up the stairs to the Iron Throne, the crown fell off his head. This gave rise to an unscripted yet brilliant moment between Viserys and his brother Daemon. Prince Daemon picked up the crown, placed it on his brother’s head and helped him up to the Iron Throne. Their brotherly bond truly shined in this moment.
7. Aemond and Vhagar kill Lucerys and Arrax in House of the Dragon season 1
House of the Dragon season 1 ended with the death of Lucerys and his dragon Arrax at the hands of none other than his very own uncle Aemond Targaryen. The scene showcases the amazing cinematography and VFX of the show. And who doesn’t love dragons, right?
8. Alicent attacks Rhaenyra with the catspaw dagger
This was one major turning point for Queen Alicent. She shows the audiences and the royal family her true colors. She shows them the lengths she is willing to go to for her children. Alicent despite being a hated characters shows her complexity and fierce nature in this scene. Its also great to see how far the two friends had drifted over the years.
9. Death of Queen Aemma and Baelon
House of the Dragon season 1 has had gory scenes. But the death of Queen Aemma was one that was simply chilling. It gave the audience goosebumps and even made some look away.
10. Rhaenyra is coronated as the Queen of the Blacks in House of the Dragon season 1
The coronation of Rhaenyra as Queen of the Blacks was an underratedly beautiful scene. There was a sense of calm, loss and grief especially because it took place after Rhaenyra had just lost both her father King Viserys and her stillborn daughter Visenya.
