Fans went crazy in theaters when Patrick Stewart returned as Professor X in “Doctor Strange 2,” and were also immediately disappointed when he was killed off by Wanda Maximoff soon after. Since then fans have been wondering when the Charles Xavier star will return to their screens again. Thankfully, Patrick Stewart has confirmed that he will return and not alone. It seems he is bringing his onscreen rival, Sir Ian McKellan as Magneto as well!

Patrick Stewart And Sir Ian McKellan In The MCU

Sitting down for an interview with site ET Online, Patrick Stewart revealed that he and his “X-Men” co-star, Sir Ian McKellan are reprising their superhero roles in the MCU. He teased:

“Actually, it went very well. He did say something like [‘Hey, I would’ve done this!’], yes that’s true. But we’re not done, Sir Ian and myself. We’re… we got plans.”

This isn’t the first time Stewart has confirmed his return. Previously, he had said that Marvel had told him to be on standby. When he was asked what Professor X’s future holds, Stewart played coy and said:

“I can’t say about what Charles’ future might possibly hold.”

While Patrick Stewart got to reprise his role as Professor X in the MCU, Sir Ian McKellan hasn’t been that lucky. The latter debuted as Magneto or Erik Lehnsherr in 2000s “X-Men” film beside Patrick Stewart’s Charles Xavier. His last appearance was in “X-Men: Days of Future Past,” that released about a decade ago.

So it will be interesting to see him and Patrick Stewart return again. But in which projects can they return?

Which MCU Projects Will Magneto And Professor X Be In?

There are mainly two MCU projects McKellan and Stewart can appear in. One is “Deadpool 3” and the other is “Avengers: Secret Wars.” Since “Deadpool 3” is all about the titular character teaming up with Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine so it’s possible that we will see Stewart and McKellan’s Professor X and Magneto there.

After all, as per rumors, “Deadpool 3” is supposed to be a multiversal adventure where we will get to see multiple characters from Fox’s X-Men franchise. However, if that doesn’t pan out, then we might see the two of them in “Avengers: Secret Wars.”

It’s supposed to be a major multiverse spanning action movie where MCU characters and superheroes from other Marvel live-action properties will come together. It’s speculated that characters like Jean Grey, Spider-Man, and more will be in the film.

However, it remains to be seen where will we see Patrick Stewart and Ian McKellan together onscreen again as Professor X and Magneto.
