As fans we must have thought about more than 14 million possibilities that could have changed the outcomes of Avengers: Infinity War. So, let’s discuss about one among these million possibilities that must have poked our minds at some point of time. What if there were only five infinity stones and not six? What if there was no mind stone in the MCU?

Things must have been different, right? So, we are about to explore a theory on how MCU events would affect due to this change in the story line.

No Mind Stone! No Vision!

Mind Stone
Mind Stone: Avengers Infinity War and End Game

In Avengers: Age of Ultron, we saw Ultron using the mind stone to power Vision, which Tony didn’t change while programming Jarvis into it. It was the mind stone that powered Vision along with all of the other things. He was a formidable machine, until Thanos’s children beat the shit out of him.

But, we are not here to talk about what happened. Instead, we are here to discuss what could have happened if there was no mind stone for Vision.

Without the mind stone, Vision wouldn’t have the power to think straight on difficult situations. We have seen several times on how the mind stone alerts Vision about anything bad happening around him. Without it, he would never be able to sense the threat or be prepared for what’s coming.

Prior to that, Ultron decided on creating Vision to channelize the power of mind stone and then transfer his consciousness into him. We have seen the taste of Ultron’s plans with Vision, in What If…? Season 1.

Without mind stone, Ultron would have just taken a different approach in killing the Avengers and taking over the world. We will be losing out on so many Marvel movies and important scenes, if Vision didn’t existed in the timeline.

No Mind Stone! No Snap

Thanos's Snap
Thanos’s Snap: Avengers: Infinity War

Each of the infinity stone signifies some ability to replicate the motive of a gauntlet snap:

  • Space stone is to travel the snap’s effect throughout the universe.
  • Time stone is to ensure all lives are taken at once.
  • Power stone is to execute this massive task.
  • Soul stone is to preserve all of the dead souls in its magical world.
  • Reality stone is to disorient the bodies of the dead.
  • MIND STONE was to process the thought behind Thanos’s snap.

Without mind stone, it is impossible to process the thought in a snap. For instance, in Avengers: Infinity War, Thanos snapped to wipe out 50% of all living creatures around the universe. In Avengers: End Game, Hulk snapped his fingers to bring back everyone who were gone in the blip. And in the same movie, Iron Man again snapped to destroy only Thanos’s army.

So, it explains how the mind stone works in processing the thoughts into action, and spread it across the universe, in real time and with ample power.

If there exists no mind stone in MCU, then the snap would not have processed by the wearer of the gauntlet. The effect would have just been random.

If the storyline would have approached without a mind stone and just five infinity stones, then Thanos’s intention might not be to eliminate half of the world’s population, but to wipe out the entire universe, or send everyone in the universe into some time loop.

It would have been interesting to watch Avengers fighting Thanos to save people stuck in a time loop in the soul world or somewhere around the void galaxy.

All of the six infinity stones were perfectly plotted in the entire MCU timeline to execute the story they had planned since ages. Even though we would have loved to see different plots that are growing in our minds, Marvel has still done a great job to give us something to cherish forever.

We hope Marvel buckles up its game, because the Phase 4 has been a complete failure to mark a strong impact, except Spider-Man: No Way Home.
