Chris Evans, best known for his portrayal of Steve Rogers/Captain America in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), recently spoke out about being frequently asked about his potential return to the franchise. While promoting his new projects like Ghosted, Lightyear, and Knives Out, Evans has been faced with numerous interview questions about a possible comeback.

In an interview with AP Entertainment, Evans addressed whether he was annoyed by the constant questions. The actor stated that he did not find the questions “annoying at all” because he loves that chapter of his life. However, his love for the role is also the reason why he remains apprehensive about returning.

Is Chris Evans Returning To The MCU As Captain America

Evans explained that he is “precious” and “protective” of his character, and he does not want to risk tarnishing the great thing that he was able to be a part of. He said that he is grateful to have been a part of the franchise, and he finds it challenging and rewarding to prepare for superhero movies.

Evans noted that initially, he was very happy to have a break after portraying the iconic superhero, but he misses it now. Even so, he feels it would take the right timing and reasons for him to return. He also acknowledged that Anthony Mackie’s Sam Wilson has taken on the mantle of Captain America, making it difficult for him to find his place in the franchise.

The Easier Sell

Evans further expressed in a conversation with MTV News’ Josh Horowitz that it would be “an easier sell” for him to reprise his Human Torch role from Fantastic Four than to return as Captain America. He said that Johnny Storm didn’t really get his day, and he loved that role.

Marvel Studios would have to come up with an exceptional story to get Evans back in the stars and stripes, given his hesitation to rejoin the MCU. It remains to be seen whether the studio will bring back Evans’ Captain America and Robert Downey Jr.’s Iron Man for Avengers: Secret Wars.
