In “Chapter 21” of The Mandalorian Season 3, Dave Filoni made another perfect cameo. He reprised his role as Trapper Wolf, seen sitting alongside Paul Sun-Hyung Lee’s Captain Teva at a New Republic base cantina early in the episode. What makes this cameo even more perfect is that Filoni was seen sporting his signature cowboy hat, making it clear that he was indeed playing himself.

Other Directors Who Made Cameos in The Episode

In addition to Filoni’s cameo, other Star Wars directors like Deborah Chow and Rick Famuyiwa also appeared in the episode as Sash Ketter and Jib Dodger, respectively.

Dave Filoni has become a beloved figure amongst fans of the Star Wars franchise. Some even see him as the quasi-Kevin Feige figure for the galaxy far, far away. Filoni has continued to move the franchise forward, regardless of the quality of other content being released around his projects. While Feige does not write himself into Marvel Studios projects, Filoni enjoys having fun with his cameos, which fans appreciate.

Dave Filoni’s latest cameo in The Mandalorian not only creates more narrative connective tissue that audiences love, but it also canonizes Filoni himself into the Star Wars timeline. Before this cameo, Trapper Wolf was a nondescript New Republic pilot played by Filoni. But now, the character is Filoni himself, complete with his signature cowboy hat.
