When Quantumania begins streaming on Disney+ on May 17, it will break the record for the longest wait between a Marvel movie’s release and hitting the streamer.
The assumption used to be that a film that did not perform well in the box office or was not received well by critics would hit the streaming platform sooner rather than later. However, Ant-Man 3, with the lowest Rotten Tomatoes score in MCU history and the lowest-grossing Ant-Man film, is currently tied for the longest wait between a Marvel movie’s release and hitting Disney+. On the other hand, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, with an 84% Rotten Tomatoes score and a worldwide gross of $854 million, hit Disney+ 82 days after its release.
Guardians Of The Galaxy 3 Most Likely Release Date
Vol. 3 was released in theaters on May 5, and 89 days later would be Wednesday, August 2. This puts it on the same timeline as Quantumania. If Disney follows a pattern, then Wednesday, August 9, which is 96 days after the release, could be the actual release date.
Disney has no reason to rush to put Vol. 3 on the streaming platform. The Marvels was pushed back to November, giving impatient audiences an opportunity to buy the digital VOD before its release.
What Else Can We Expect on Disney+ In August?
Star Wars’ latest series, Ahsoka, starring Rosario Dawson, is set to begin in August, but an exact release date has yet to be confirmed. However, Disney is not afraid to release new content by some of its biggest brands on the same day. Last fall, they even overlapped MCU and Star Wars shows She-Hulk and Andor.
Having the complete James Gunn Guardians trilogy on Disney+ will undoubtedly bolster the streamer for years to come, as the franchise has become one of the most iconic over the past decade.
