Marvel Studios is making significant changes to its script strategy following criticism of Phase 4 and Phase 5’s Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania. The studio has brought on board three new writers to rewrite upcoming movies that have not yet begun production.

Marvel is targeting more established writers instead of newbies. This shift is evident in the hiring of Nic Pizzolatto for Blade, Josh Friedman for Fantastic Four, and Lee Sung Jin for Thunderbolts. These writers are all coming off successful projects, indicating that Marvel is spending more money on writers.

Marvel appears to be course-correcting after recent failures and the backlash to Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania. The quality of its output has suffered due to taking too many risks on fresh talent. The three writer replacements in 30 days suggest a shift in Marvel’s overall script strategy. The hope is that the uptick in experience and acclaim will lead to better-received movies in the long run.

Potential Delay And Replacement Of Writers

These changes in strategy may lead to delays in production and release for some upcoming movies. With Hollywood’s upcoming writer strike over a desire for increased pay, this could exacerbate the issue. Marvel Studios may also replace writers Jeff Loveness and Michael Waldron for The Kang Dynasty and Secret Wars, respectively, following the backlash to Quantumania. If this happens, Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely, who wrote Infinity War and Endgame, could be called upon to deliver more Avengers hits.
