The fact that Otto Hightower resembles Petyr Baelish from Game of Thrones only serves to highlight his growing importance as an egoistic mastermind in House of the Dragon. It seemed evident that the Hand of the King was determined to secure his foothold, and prominence in Westeros when he sent Lady Alicent, his daughter, to the chamber of the weeping King Viserys Targaryen.

His role as Hand of the King plans to wed his daughter to the Lord of the seven kingdoms, and repeated efforts to destabilize other members of the tiny council all portray him as the House of the Dragon’s equivalent of Tywin Lannister. Nevertheless, he is more like Petyr Baelish.

The Parallels Between Baelish, and Otto Hightower

Lord Petyr Baelish, from Game of Thrones, lived considerably longer than most individuals who were so close to the crown because his schemes and deceits served his own interests and left his genuine reasons murky.

Belonging from a lesser household, Petyr was forthright about his unreliability and attempted to exploit people in his vicinity to advance his status in the kingdom. Petyr constituted the most prominent member of the ruling class in Game of Thrones who actively undermined his rivals in order to further his own status and secure his hold on the Iron Throne.

Lord Otto Hightower’s sleazy methods now have been shown in the first two episodes of House of the Dragon, however the former is far less intelligent than he believes due to his repeated plan blunders and failure to correctly judge the virtues and weaknesses of his friends and opponents.

Although Otto would like to think that he is Tywin Lannister, in truth, he is more like Petyr, and it was his plotting that eventually contributed to the Dance of the Dragons as well as the War of the Five Kingdoms.

The guy gave off a good impression at first by urging his King, and dear friend not to allow Prince Daemon to act as judge, jury, and executioner. Even though King’s Landing was a volatile site, to begin with, hostilities were rising due to Viserys’ dearth of a legitimate heir. Concerned that Daemon’s hasty execution of thousands of people to convey a warning to the masses might disrupt the town’s uncomfortable tranquility, Otto raised his worries with the royal council.

Following the death of Queen Aemma, and his stillborn during delivery, he pleaded with Viserys to seek another method of determining the heir to the throne. He had a great deal of trouble with Daemon’s vanity and fondness for capital retribution. But Viserys slammed out at Otto since Otto had him move his brother from Master of Law to Master of Coin to the commander of City Watch, merely for Daemon and his loyal men to create disruption.

However, as the chapter drew to a close, it was revealed that Otto was just pretending to care for the King in order to gain authority for himself, much as Petyr did with, Sansa, Cersei, Stark, and so on. When Hightower summoned Alicent to his chamber, he told her to gown in her mother’s clothes and console the distraught king.

Obviously, he was trading his daughter Alicent, because he knew that if the teenager seduced and bore the king’s kids, then Hightower might have a legitimate hold to the throne.

For Him, Power Is More Important Than Anything

It’s disturbing that Hightower would treat his daughter like way, particularly after the family had just lost Alicent’s mother to sickness. In a society dominated by poisonous males, Otto exhibited no reluctance and saw his daughter without sympathy. He saw her as a political negotiating piece, much more so than when Petry did it with Sansa and Ramsay Bolton in Game of Thrones.

As Petyr used his charm on complete outsiders, and the one with the power to obtain what he wanted, not that it’s acceptable, Otto pretended to be righteous, and pious in front of the King whilst he robbed his own daughter of her freedom. Fortunately, Viserys and Alicent talked past, however, Otto realizes it’s just a question of time until he can ensnare the king.
