Actor Thomas Haden Church, who played Sandman in 2007’s Spider-Man 3 and recently reprised his role in Spider-Man: No Way Home, hinted at the possibility of returning to the big screen as Flint Marko, Sandman’s human alter-ego. In an interview with Pilot Productions, Church revealed that he, director Jon Watts, Sony producer and executive Amy Pascal, and Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige “all had a lot of conversations” about the character’s future in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU).

The Possibility Of A “More Fulfilling Story” For Sandman

According to Church, he and Watts have discussed the idea of bringing Sandman back as Flint Marko, with the character returning to human form. Church mentioned that there is a story in which Flint Marko becomes more than just Sandman, and that the possibility of this happening has been discussed. Church also noted that there is a reason why Sandman couldn’t be human in Spider-Man: No Way Home until the very end when he is briefly seen in a screen grab from Spider-Man 3.

Where Does Sandman Fit In The MCU?

After the events of Spider-Man: No Way Home, it seemed as though Sandman had said his final goodbye, along with the other Multiversal villains. However, if these “conversations” turn into something, Sandman could make a return to the big screen. It’s possible that he could appear in the upcoming Tom Holland-led Spider-Man 4, but it seems more likely that he could have his own standalone film in the Sony Spider-Man Universe.

While it’s unclear whether Thomas Haden Church will reprise his role as Sandman, the actor’s recent comments have given fans hope that the character could return to the big screen. If Sandman does make a comeback, it’s possible that he could have a “more fulfilling story” as Flint Marko, potentially in a solo film in the Sony Spider-Man Universe. Only time will tell if Sandman will return to the MCU, but fans can rest assured that the character’s future is being discussed by some of the biggest names in the Marvel universe.
