Dave Filoni, the director of Ahsoka and co-creator of The Mandalorian, was interviewed at Star Wars Celebration and asked if the finale of The Mandalorian Season 3 would lead directly into Ahsoka. The interviewer referenced a mention of Grand Admiral Thrawn in Chapter 23 of The Mandalorian, titled “The Spies.” Filoni’s response suggested that the shows are connected, but he does not see them leading directly into one another.

Grand Admiral Thrawn was referenced in The Mandalorian Season 3’s latest episode, with Moff Gideon and other Empire leaders discussing his return and his potential to restore the Empire’s former glory. There is a chance that Thrawn may appear in The Mandalorian Season 3 finale, especially given Filoni’s comments on the shows being “tangential” to one another. A post-credits scene featuring Ahsoka or Thrawn could also be a possibility, similar to how Season 2 included a stinger to set up Boba Fett’s new era and formally announce The Book of Boba Fett for the following year. However, Filoni emphasized his desire to ensure that all his Star Wars projects work as standalone, while still having their connection.

The possibility of Thrawn appearing in The Mandalorian Season 3 finale is exciting for fans, especially with Ahsoka on the way and Thrawn set to play a major role as the main villain. Fans will have to wait and see if Thrawn indeed shows up in the finale or if there will be any other hints for future crossovers in the MandoVerse.
