Director James Gunn, who is best known for helming the Guardians of the Galaxy films, has taken to Twitter to voice his opinion on a creative decision made in Avengers: Infinity War. While he was involved in some conversations about the film, it seems he did not agree with every choice made.

The matter at hand concerns Star-Lord/Peter Quill’s iconic helmet, which was noticeably absent in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. When a fan asked about its whereabouts, Gunn revealed that it was in Peter Quill’s desk drawer in Knowhere and that he did not take it with him during his hasty exit at the beginning of Infinity War.

Gunn also pointed out that the rockets that clip onto Star-Lord’s boots are no longer around, as they are far inferior to the jet packs that Rocket has made for them. He further noted that while Peter Quill’s helmet did break in Vol. 2, it somehow reappeared in Infinity War.

Is Gunn’s Criticism Valid?

While it is understandable that Gunn may be protective of his characters and their iconic looks, some fans may not see the issue with the new helmet. After all, it makes perfect sense that Peter Quill would have made another one in the four-year time gap between the two films, especially considering that his original helmet was destroyed in Vol. 2.

Additionally, Gunn’s reasoning for the absence of the helmet in Vol. 3 is a little flimsy, as Peter Quill had plenty of time to grab it and other essentials before leaving Knowhere. Nonetheless, Gunn’s opinion on the matter adds a layer of intrigue to the ongoing conversation about the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s continuity and creative choices.

With Gunn at the helm, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 promises to be another exciting adventure for the intergalactic team, and fans can only hope that Star-Lord will get to sport some new headgear in the future.
