DC Studios co-CEO James Gunn has been accused by some fans of playing favorites with actors when it comes to casting for the DC Universe (DCU). However, the filmmaker has responded to this allegation, stating that he hires actors based on their suitability for the role and their ease of working with him.

Gunn’s Reason For Playing Favorites

In response to a Twitter user accusing him of “still playing favorites,” Gunn tweeted that he does have favorite professional actors. He explained that he prefers to work with actors who he has previously worked with because he doesn’t have to “explain [his] process to [them] all over again.”

Gunn also noted that he works with actors who understand his writing style and whom he understands intimately. This helps save time and minimize conflicts or misunderstandings during filming.

Discussions With Guardians Of The Galaxy Actors

While Gunn initially mentioned that he would “probably” work with some actors from the Guardians of the Galaxy franchise in the DCU, he has now confirmed that he has had discussions with some of them. Although it is not yet clear which actors these discussions involved, some of the Guardians actors, such as Dave Bautista, have publicly expressed interest in joining the DCU.

Speculation On Roles For Guardians Actors
