DC Studios CEO and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 director James Gunn recently expressed his thoughts on the possibility of a Marvel-DC crossover, given his involvement with both superhero universes. Here’s what we know so far.
The Possibility Of A Marvel-DC Crossover
Gunn noted how there’s always a possibility for a crossover between the two superhero companies. However, for now, the focus is on making each of their respective universes as strong as possible. Gunn added that both companies share the same goal of emboldening the movie-going experience, despite the existing rivalry between them.
Friendship With Kevin Feige
Gunn also revealed that he is very close friends with Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige and they talk all the time. He explained that a dollar for Marvel is not a dollar less for DC, and both sides making good superhero movies only brings more audiences to the theaters and serves to benefit both sides.
Gunn’s Dream Pitch For A Crossover
Gunn previously revealed his dream pitch for a Marvel-DC crossover which involves both his Guardians of the Galaxy and The Suicide Squad franchises coming together through “a Harley Quinn and Groot movie.” Although it seems unlikely, he has casually talked to the top powers at both Marvel and DC about the potential crossover.
Could Marvel & DC Ever Actually Crossover?
With the Marvel rights held firmly at Disney and the DC rights over at Warner Bros., the logistics of a crossover between the superhero giants would be immense. Gunn’s recent appointment at DC Studios certainly makes it more of a possibility to get the two sides talking at some point given his close relationship with Marvel Studios and Kevin Feige. However, right now, both Marvel and DC are firmly focused on bettering their own universes.
While a Marvel-DC crossover remains a dream for many fans, the likelihood of it happening anytime soon seems slim. Nevertheless, the possibility is still there, and with James Gunn now in a position of power at DC Studios, it’s certainly something to keep an eye on in the future.
