Some of the most popular MCU TV shows are reportedly on their way out of Netflix next month. These include Jessica Jones and Luke Cage as well as Iron Fist and The Punisher. New Marvel heroes were introduced in the shows. These were created for the streaming service and were not seen in previous MCU films or TV shows. With the exception of The Punisher, which was a spinoff from Daredevil, each individual show ultimately resulted in the Avengers-esque crossover miniseries The Defenders. Here, fans saw the new team of heroes fighting against the supervillain organization known as The Hand.
Marvel Shows Out Of Netflix Confirmed
After ABC’s Agents of Shield, Agent Carter, and Inhumans, Marvel’s multiple Netflix shows began with the release of Daredevil in 2015. Krysten Ritter played Jessica Jones, Mike Colter portrayed Luke Cage, Finn Jones portrayed Iron Fist, and Jon Bernthal portrayed The Punisher in its sibling shows. Most of the shows ran for at least two seasons because of a generally positive reception. Netflix, on the other hand, ended up canceling every show by February of 2019.
Fans of Marvel shows like Daredevil and The Defenders may be in for more bad news in the near future. According to a pop-up message on each show, Netflix has now confirmed that they will only be available to stream until March 1. The removal “seems to be the case in other regions,” according to the publication. This is so despite the fact that it was only confirmed in the UK.
Disney+ To The Rescue!
Not much is known about the interconnected series’ new location. Furthermore, Netflix hasn’t commented on it or confirmed where it will be housed. A previous rumor suggested Disney+, Marvel’s new home for original TV content, might bring the Netflix shows back. After the contractual two-year waiting period following Netflix’s cancellation, Disney has the right to use the characters in non-Netflix settings. So far, Marvel Studios CEO Kevin Feige has confirmed, however, that the studio’s primary focus is on the various new MCU series being devised for the platform. These include Moon Knight, She-Hulk, and Ms. Marvel. All these new shows are considered canon in the MCU, while these previous Marvel Netflix shows are not.
Despite the fact that fans of Daredevil, Jessica Jones, and The Defenders will undoubtedly be disappointed, there is still some hope. A return to the MCU for these characters is clearly in the works, as evidenced by Disney’s announcement today. The recent appearance of Cox in NWH and Vincent D’Onofrio as Kingpin in Hawkeye may reassure fans of Netflix’s Daredevil that the MCU is likely to bring back the Netflix series and perhaps other superheroes in the future. Fans of the Marvel Knights will be devastated if Netflix decides to remove the original series from its streaming service. This is so regardless of when or even if the Marvel characters will get a new start.
