The Upcoming “John Wick: Chapter 4” Will Be The Franchise’s Longest Movie Ever, According To Director Chad Stahelski
Fans of Keanu Reeves should brace themselves for the longest “John Wick” film ever. The upcoming “John Wick: Chapter 4” will be the franchise’s longest movie ever, according to director Chad Stahelski. Stahelski is only a few weeks away from finishing the film’s final cut.
The film, which hits theatres on March 24th, plans to use the extra time to drive the action to previously unknown extremes. Given that this movie has previously given us bar shootouts, knife-throwing spectaculars, ninjas on motorbikes, and Halle Berry fighting alongside two deadly canines. John Wick 4 is shaping up to be pretty extraordinary.
Chad Stahelski the director of the movie, stated that ,”It’s longer than the other three, but not that long. We’re on the final stretch for picture lock, and then we have our VFX, music. But this is the furthest along I’ve ever been, this much in post. We love the music that we’ve got so far. We still have Tyler Bates doing the composition on some of the bigger sequences. VFX are going to be coming in throughout the rest of the year. But we’re dangerously close.”
“In our edit, as far as our picture lock goes, we’re within a few minutes of locking,” the director added. “Our sequences are done. The movie is essentially done. There’s probably another few weeks of tweaking overall, then we lock picture and we’re about music, sound and the effects.”
While an exact “John Wick 4” run time has not been disclosed, the film will be more than two hours and 11 minutes because it is the franchise’s longest installment yet. The first “John Wick” was 101 minutes long, while “John Wick: Chapter 2” was 122 minutes long. “John Wick: Chapter 3: Parabellum” was even longer, clocking in at 131 minutes.
The “John Wick” film franchise’s runtimes have all grown longer with each film, and each chapter has surpassed its predecessor at the cinema. The first “John Wick” grossed $86 million worldwide in 2014, with “John Wick: Chapter 2” earning $171.5 million in 2017 and “John Wick: Chapter 3: Parabellum” grossing $327.3 million in 2019.
The fourth installment of John Wick continues where the third movie left off, with a nearly-dead Wick swearing vengeance against The High Table when their violent plot to destroy him fails. With Winston and the Continental appearing to betray our favorite lethal dog lover, Wick has gone into full-fledged vengeance mode. His chance at liberty, however, is compromised by a new antagonist with worldwide connections.
In John Wick: Chapter 4, Ian McShane as Winston and Lance Reddick as Charon will return, along with newcomers Bill Skarsgard as The Marquis, Shamier Anderson as The Tracker, and Clancy Brown as The Harbinger. Caine (Donnie Yen) and Shimazu (Hiroyuki Sanada) will also square off in the fourth film. Laurence Fishburne, who played Bowery King in The Matrix, will also reconnect with Reeves. Rina Sawayama, Scott Adkins, and Natalia Tena will also star in the film; however, the names of their characters have yet to be announced.
John Wick: Chapter 4 will be released in theatres on March 24.
