Marvel’s Phase One, Two, and Three, which combine to create the Infinity Saga include a total of 23 movies. All these movies have led the Marvel Cinematic Universe in fleshing out its one supervillain – Thanos. He had been lurking in the shadows for years, as Tony Stark sometimes sensed him as a feeling.

The character received a proper fleshed-out appearance in Avengers: Infinity War. This took the fandom into a frenzy. Played by actor Josh Brolin, the villain received glorious applause. In pop culture, he ranked close to Star Wars Darth Vader with his nefarious, destructive ways. Today, fans all around the world praise Thanos and are familiar with his name and voice. Which is why, when Thanos met his end in the MCU with Avengers: Endgame, it was devastating. Fans did not want Brolin’s character to leave the MCU.

Warning – This article contains spoilers from Eternals

Marvel Studios latest release Eternals comes as a silver ray of hope in that aspect. As a gentle surprise, the post-credits scene in Eternals featured Eros. Harry Styles’ Eros is the Mad Titan’s younger brother. So, does that mean that fans can expect Thanos to return for more?

Is Thanos making it’s way back into the MCU?

Eternals screenplay writers Ryan and Kaz Firpo got into an interview with TheDirect. The writers shed some light on the introduction of Eros into the MCU. While discussing the fact that there were several connotations about Eros and Thanos being either synthetic or organic beings, there was one thing that was subtly revealed. With Eros now on the slate, there was a high probability to see Thanos enter the storyline.

But what were the Firpo cousins’ opinions about Josh Brolin’s Thanos coming back into the plot alongside Eros? Kaz Fripo is all in with the idea. The writer even said that he thinks there was “no way” to take the Eternals’ story forward without including Josh Brolin’s Thanos. To what extent though, is yet uncertain.

“I believe that there is no way that you can do Eternals 2 and 3 without somehow touching on Mr. Brolin.”

Incorporation of Thanos, Eros, & their mystical history

Eros seems to be a promising novel but lasting future in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. This future of Harry Styles’ character will likely involve at least a scene of two featuring his big brother, Josh Brolin. Eternals would not introduce Eros, the kin of Thanos, without having plans to incorporate the two together in the future.

This addition to the story could be done through flashbacks or memories. The storyline could probably unravel the mysterious origin and history of the planet Titan. The early life of Thanos, and what led him to this path of destruction. As well as how Eros came to be a part of Eternals. If not, the story could always tell more about the Eternals and their species.

Another long-shot theory is that Thanos could return from the dead. Since Thanos is an Eternal, there is a wide range of possibilities to explore if Marvel Studios wants to bring back Josh Brolin into the MCU. Meanwhile, you can watch Eternals, now playing in theaters all around the world.
