The season 2 finale of The Mandalorian can be described in one word- Epic and it was all due to the appearance of young Luke Skywalker. We now know that it wasn’t a past-his-prime Mark Hamill who showed up on sets for that scene. In fact, it was just some stunt double.

But what about the actors in the show? Were they told that the stunt double was going to be Luke Skywalker? According to Katee Sackhoff, that’s a no.

The Mandalorian Producers Told The Cast That Some Other Jedi Was Coming To Rescue Grogu

The Bo-Katan actress revealed during a live stream (for charity) at the YouTube channel- Star Wars Explained that the producers had told the actors that it was going to be a different Jedi.

At around the 13:35 mark, Sackhoff talks about the behind-the-scenes details regarding that iconic season 2 finale scene. She says that the producers told everyone that the person coming to rescue Grogu wasn’t Luke Skywalker, but Plo Koon.

Who Is Plo Koon?

For those not intimately familiar with Star Wars lore, note that Plo Koon is a real character who is a major Jedi Master. He mentored Ahsoka Tano and was a frequently recurring character in The Clone Wars animated series.

It’s mentioned that Plo Koon was a Jedi Council member during Attack of the Clones and The Phantom Menace. As such, we mainly saw him during the Prequel era. However, Plo Koon isn’t alive now. That man met his end in the Revenge of the Sith during the infamous Order 66.

Katee Sackhoff Pokes Fun At Her Own Gullibility

In the Livestream, Sackhoff pokes fun at her own gullibility for believing this cover-up. But we don’t blame her. After all, she saw the dead Boba Fett come back to life in her season. So the dead Plo Koon coming back wasn’t that big of a stretch.

Also, if you remember the social media reactions from the stars of the show, then it seemed like they were just as surprised as well by Luke’s appearance as the viewers were.

So Disney and Lucasfilm did keep Luke’s appearance a secret from the cast. It’s also not the first time that Disney has done something like this. After all, Katee should just ask the MCU cast about all the secrets that they were not told during filming!
