Obi-Wan Kenobi, one of the most talked about Star Wars projects in a long time, is coming to Disney+ on May 25th. The Book of Boba Fett was fun at times, but the debate over Ewan McGregor’s return is a lot bigger than the book. If you want to see Ewan McGregor again, the wait is almost over. So for the six-episode story, what can fans expect? He will be watching over Luke Skywalker until the Inquisitors show up, which is when he will be very busy! They’re going to run into Kenobi at some point because they’re going to be looking for the Jedi and their followers.

But there’s also Darth Vader, who will be making a big show. Hayden Christensen will reprise his role as Anakin Skywalker, but this time he’ll be able to wear the famous outfit. It would be hard to have a show like Obi-Wan Kenobi without Vader, because they had a very close and tragic relationship in the past movies they were in. During the movie, what can people expect when they see the Sith? Entertainment Weekly talked to Deborah Chow, the director of Obi-Wan Kenobi. She told them what fans can expect when Darth Vader comes back in the new Disney+ show.

She said it was quite hard to avoid the story of Vader when she was writing the story and that the team wanted to find an archnemesis who meant something to the main character, which is why she brought him back.

Deborah Chow Emphasizes Vader’s Return

Obi-Wan Kenobi’s director, Deborah Chow explained in an interview as to why she wanted Vader to return in the series.

Starting from the beginning, I wanted to do something that was character-based and character-driven, because that’s what the limited series allows you to do, which is to tell a real story about a person. The first thing I do when I think about a character is look at who has been important in his life. Even after Revenge of the Sith, it’s hard to avoid Anakin and Vader in that situation. That’s how I came up with it. Not just to bring him back. It was like, “Who does something, and where are we with Vader at this point in the story?”

With the return of Anakin Skywalker’s Sith persona comes the return of Hayden Christensen, the actor who played him in the first movie. Because he’s been with the character for so long, Chow was able to help with the creative side of things as well because he knows the character well.

“He’s beautiful.” And he’s a great person, too. And they are Canadian, as well! So the first time I met him was in Toronto, and it was really nice because we met up in Canada. Ewan and Hayden have been these characters for so long, and they’ve lived with this character in their lives for so long that they know the character so well, which is very helpful for the creative process.

When Vader first came on set, it was a really interesting moment for her, because it showed how different generations and how they connected to Star Wars were shown.

There was no doubt that Hayden was going to be in this series. When he first came on set for us, there was a very special feeling. The different generations and how they connected to Star Wars and the movie franchise was interesting to me at the time. There was a generation that grew up with the prequels first and Hayden. The way they see it is very different from how it was for people who grew up with the first ones. With the new ones, there’s a younger age group. So it was very special to bring him back. When we met, I was very happy because I’m from Canada and he was from Canada, too. Canadian pride was running high on that day.

As Christensen is “almost part of our consciousness”, working with him was pretty significant, says Chow.

But I know that for Vader, it’s almost like he’s a part of us; because we’ve all had him in our lives for so long that; when we see him on set, it’s kind of important. It’s a little moving.

People will see a different Vader in the new Disney+ show, but not one from New Hope yet. The way Obi-Wan is to us is that he’s in the middle of these two trilogies. So, this might mean a lot towards his character development. He isn’t the New Hope Vader yet. So we’re in the middle of this time with the character, which is where we are now. It is still Vader, but he isn’t as entirely cruel as he was in A New Hope. It’s ironic that when the prequel trilogy came out; and even for a while after, Hayden Christensen didn’t get a lot of praise for his role and performance. Now that he’s back, it’s one of the most exciting things for the franchise.

There are sure to be a lot of people who are excited when Obi-Wan meets Anakin’s Vader. Hopefully, the show’s creators haven’t been flattened by the weight of the show. They should fight in at least two different ways. This is based on previous rumors.

It’s a good thing that the writers have come up with a way to show Christensen’s face without the Vader helmet on. Otherwise, having the actor back might not seem very important.

Besides Obi-Wan Kenobi, Christensen is set to appear in a lot of other places, like in the Star Wars movie. It was previously said that the actor would reprise his role in an unconfirmed way in the new Ahsoka series. In the movie, many people are excited about more scenes between Obi-Wan and Anakin. But the first live-action scene of Ahsoka meeting her former Master could easily get the same kind of attention.

Obi-Wan Kenobi is all set to premiere on May 25th on Disney+.
