We have already seen the images of Alaqua Cox reprising her role as Maya Lopez in the new series titled “Echo” that is set to release on Disney+ in 2023. She was introduced in Hawkeye as a badass deaf gang leader and it left the audience wanting more. However, for the Marvel fans out there we have some even better news. In the leaked images from the sets of Echo, we see none other than Vincent D’Onofrio donning his iconic white suit as our beloved terrifying big bad- Kingpin.

Who Is Kingpin?

Kingpin or Wilson Frisk is a ruthless crime lord who rules the New York underworld with an iron fist. His journey to becoming a criminal mastermind started when he was no more than 12 years old and took a life for the first time. Kingpin has had his shares of run-ins with spiderman, his main foe – Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage and even Iron fist.

A Brief Recap of His Previous Appearances

Vincent D’Onofrio made his banging surprise appearance in the season finale of Hawkeye where he was pitted against Clint Barton and Kate Bishop. He showed immense strength as he picked up Kate Bishop and threw her around as if she weighed nothing. He also displayed near invulnerability and endurance as he seemed indestructible. However, he has also brought to life another iteration of Kingpin in the Daredevil TV series. The show depicts the insane rivalry between Matt Murdock aka Daredevil and Kingpin where the latter causes destruction wherever he goes and kills people in the most gruesome manners.

Role In Echo

Now we know that Maya Lopez supposedly pulled a gun on Kingpin and pulled the trigger off screen, most likely killing him. But having mentioned the indestructible nature of Kingpin, there is no telling whether or not he’s dead. Moreover, a similar scene exists in the comics where Maya shoots him in the head but he survives, with very few injuries might we add. And if there’s anything Marvel has taught us it’s that no one’s truly dead forever and can be reincarnated on screen in a hundred and one ways.

The leaked images from the sets are of a scene involving a young Maya Lopez and some ice cream. It involves a scene where a fight ensues and Wilson Fisk has to step in and save Maya from her bullies. This indicates that Kingpin will most likely be involved in flashbacks that will explore Maya’s unfortunate childhood. Since her ‘uncle’ Kingpin practically raised her and trained her to be the fighter she is today, their intertwined past will probably be untangled over the course of the show. We might even get to see when this father figure of sorts finally became the villain in the eyes of Maya.
