Netflix dropped the much-anticipated Season 2 of its popular series, The Witcher. The franchise amazed fans by displaying an entire array of action-packed adventures of their favorite characters. The season gave Ciri a huge limelight. It unfolded the mystery revolving around her magical powers, as well as her exceptionally surprising lineage.

The Witcher revealed in its intense finale the riders of the Wild Hunt and their leader Eredin. In addition to this, the season also built an intriguing narrative by introducing a character in Lara Dorren. So, who is Lara Dorren? And what exactly is her connection to the Princess of Cintra?

The History Of Lara Dorren In The Witcher Series;

Based on who decides to portray it, Lara Dorren’s story wavers in its tale. However, at the end of the day, it is a tale of love and loss. Lara Dorren has existed since after the events of the Conjunction of the Spheres. She was a powerful elven sorceress and sage. The sorceress was surviving in a world that was learning to despise the elves with all their might. There, Lara Dorren fell in love with another powerful human mage named Cregennan of Lod.

Cregennan was a mage who actively fought for the elven cause. He encouraged peaceful and accepting cohabitation among the elven race and humanity. And he continuously stood up against human prejudice. But Cregennan and Lara Dorren’s pairing created a shift in the dynamic of things. It caused an intense dispute in both races, but more so among humans.

Despite all odds, the two ended up getting married. And soon after, Lara became pregnant with her daughter, Riannon. Knowing this, the humans were furious. And they plotted an attack on the couple which led to the devastating death of Cregennan. And then Lara Dorren died too, leaving their young daughter to be an orphan. Cerro, the then-ruling queen of Redania, eventually adopted Riannon. And thus began a long line of royal heritage, which was secretly elven too.

Which means that the true ancestry is to a long and powerful line of queens and princesses. Albeit the courtesy of her daughter Riannon. And this includes Cintra’s young princess Cirilla.

All of Lara Dorren’s descendants, including Ciri, are recognized because of their exceptionally powerful magical powers. This is because they have Elder Blood, or Hen Ichaer, coursing through their veins. Elder Blood, also known as the “Lara gene,” is a special lineage that lies with the elven race. The reason for its remarkability is that it inculcates incredible magical abilities in its female descendants.

Queen Calanthe, Pavetta, and Princess Cirilla are all descendants of Lara Dorren. Lara Dorren’s powers have visibly appeared in Pavetta in The Witcher Season 1, Episode 4. And now Season 2 focuses entirely on fleshing out Ciri’s powers. Her Elder Blood is responsible for her overwhelming abilities. And it is also why there are several forces across the Continent trying to get their hands on her.

The Witcher Season 1 and Season 2 are available to stream exclusively on Netflix.
