For Lindsay Lohan, this sequel marks her most significant return to filmmaking. As one of the biggest teen stars in the early 2000s, Lohan gained recognition for her role in The Parent Trap, where she portrayed two different characters. Reflecting on her part in Freaky Friday, Lohan stated, “As an 11-year-old, The Parent Trap felt so big to me… Freaky Friday felt different because I was going through all of the phases of a 16-year-old.”

Jamie Lee Curtis, who signed on for the role just days before filming began, described her experience working with Lohan as easy and comfortable. Curtis took the Mean Girls actress under her wing and formed a supportive bond on set.

Over the years, the Freaky Friday franchise has seen multiple adaptations. Disney’s 2003 film was the third rendition, with earlier versions released in the ’70s and as a made-for-television movie in 1995. A Disney Channel reboot was also produced in 2018. Despite these subsequent adaptations, the long-awaited sequel will bring back the original duo. A release date for the project has yet to be announced.
