House of the Dragon may show us a version of the Clegane brothers from Game of Thrones, when the elder brother, Gregor “The Mountain” Clegane, burnt his brother’s face in a fire, resulting in Sandor “The Hound” Clegane’s permanent fear from fire. Larys’s brother Ser Harwin Strong, apart from being the father of Rhaenyra’s first three sons, also holds the nickname “Breakbones,” because that is what he does and is known for. Similarly, in HOTD, Harwin may have broken Larys’ feet and ankle bones, resulting in his infamous feet fetish, as we saw in episode 9 of House of the Dragon.

Reason Why Larys May Be Faking His Clubfoot

If Larys’s foot does not work, why lie that it’s a clubfoot and not a broken foot? Well, we know that he has sinister plans, as we clearly saw in last week’s episode of House of the Dragon when he broke Otto Hightower’s trust and informed Alicent about Mysaria. House of the Dragon season 1, episode 9 reveals Larys’s evil side, with the show hinting that he may be disguising his clubfoot. This would be different from the Fire & Blood novel, rendering his character even more wicked.

And besides, Larys’ actions are clearly dubious. His decision to create a personal sigil of a firefly is a sign of his violent tendencies, as he also pins it to his friends’ collars while they commit destruction and murder. However, the public exhibition of force and the phony clubfoot might be part of Larys’ bigger strategy.

Will House of the Dragon Deviate Larys From The Books?

Lary’s loyalties are uncertain throughout the Fire & Blood novel. He appears devoted to Alicent and her anointed successor King Aegon II. Lary’s feigning his clubfoot might enable him to utilize his firefly-clad minions as a show of force while disguising his actual intentions. This idea has been carried forward in House of the Dragon.

In the book, Larys attends the Green Council meeting and recommends that the remaining representatives of the Green Party take a blood oath in favor of Aegon the Elder (Aegon II Targaryen). Considering that Larys is not there during the Green Council meeting in House of the Dragon to pledge his devotion to Aegon II, this quirk gives him a chance to further flesh out his persona in the series. This adjustment, together with the suspected fake clubfoot and Larys’ promise to take an eye for Alicent, might be indicative of a trend of pretended commitment to the Hightower mission. While Alicent seeks the greatest intentions of the realm, Larys seeks wealth. His possible broken foot-induced walk and gathering of firefly minions might be a tactic to give the impression of the weakness of character, whereas, in actuality, he efficiently conducts his operations.
