There is still a long way to go before Doctor Strange played by Benedict Cumberbatch, gets to the Multiverse of Madness. The Marvel Cinematic Universe has already teased its next movie with a surprise trailer for Thor: Love and Thunder. Even though the new teaser is short, it already gives fans a lot to think about. It gives us a look at Thor, played by Chris Hemsworth, and the Guardians of the Galaxy’s cosmic adventure. Breaking down the first trailer for Thor: Love and Thunder is a good way to keep ourselves going until the movie comes out in months.
Director Taika Waititi kept the hard rock aesthetics that made Thor: Ragnarok a huge hit. The trailer’s use of “Sweet Child O’ Mine,” a Guns N’ Roses classic, shows that there is no doubt. It’s a good thing that Love and Thunder will be there for Ragnarok. They’ll offer a crazy cosmic adventure that doesn’t forget about personal growth. Then Thor needs some time to think about where he fits in the world. Valkyrie was in charge of New Asgard after Avengers: Endgame, so the God of Thunder gave up his throne (Tessa Thompson). Now, he’s on a space trip with the Guardians of the Galaxy, and he wants to become more than just a warrior.
Here’s the Breakdown:
Thor: Love And Thunder Teaser Breakdown
We see Thor running through the woods as a child, then as a teenager, and finally as the bulky wonder man we love so much. His teenage costume is based on Thor’s comic book look, with the winged helmet and a horned helmet.
Thor thinks about how he always used his hands for war in the movie’s trailer. God of Thunder used to be from Asgard. Now, he wants to leave that behind and work for peace instead.
When Thor fights Thanos played by Josh Brolin in Avengers: Infinity War, he uses Stormbreaker, the axe he used to fight him. He doesn’t want to keep it. Promises to show us a more mature Thor, as the God of Thunder finally gives up his desire to fight and work on himself.
With that in mind, the God of Thunder wants to get in shape with a lot of exercise. In Ragnarok, Thor wears a cap with the words “Strongest Avenger” on it. Thor tried to get into an airplane built by Tony Stark, played by Robert Downey Jr. by saying that he was the strongest Avenger, only to find out that Bruce Banner was the real winner. It hurt Thor’s pride when the joke was made. The God of Thunder will try to get the title for himself.
During his search to figure out who he is, Thor will try to act like Peter Quill (Chris Pratt). In the trailer, Thor is seen wearing a jacket that looks a lot like Quill’s. Star-Lord laughs as he looks at the jacket. There’s no doubt that Thor is a brand new member of the Guardians. The trailer, however, suggests that he will break away from the group to find his own path. It’s not clear why Thor will do this, but it looks like he will give Stormbreaker away when he leaves the Guardians.
In the trailer, Korg, the rock man voiced by Waititi, comes back. Every time he shows up, he gets the attention. We also see a comic book reference to a boat that is pulled by two flying goats, which is also a comic book reference. As in Marvel Comics, Thor uses two flying goats to cross the sky. It looks like Love and Thunder found a way to bring this weird detail into the MCU, even though it doesn’t make any sense. New gladiator clothes are also on Korg, including a belt made of goats, which could be a nod to Thor’s animal friends again.
On his journey of self-discovery, Thor will see beautiful parts of space that he hasn’t been to before. The God of Thunder will also meet new people, including a woman with blue hair who isn’t very well known. Having “Love” in its title is not an accident.
In a surprise moment, we see Russell Crowe as Marvel’s Zeus for the first time. While pondering the role of a god in the universe, Thor is likely to visit other pantheons and see what they think about it. If you believe in Greek mythology, Crowe is going to be a Greek Thunder god in the MCU. It’s still not clear whether Zeus will be a friend or a foe, but it’s fun to see the MCU grow in new ways.
Next, we see Valkyrie as the ruler of New Asgard. She looks very bored. Valkyrie’s new job as the queen of an Earth region seems to require her to deal with a lot of bureaucracy, which isn’t good for the fierce warrior who fights so hard. It looks like Miek, Korg’s old partner, is also shown in the same frame. Miek stayed on Earth to help run the kingdom of Asgard.
Groot, Rocket, Drax, Mantis, and Nebula are also in the new teaser. Peter Quill is not the only Guardian of the Galaxy in the new teaser, as Star-Lord is also joined by Groot, Rocket, Drax, and Mantis. Unfortunately, Gamora isn’t in the picture at the moment. At the end of Infinity War, the hero died, but a different version of her from a different time came to the MCU in Endgame. New Gamora doesn’t have the same memories as the original Gamora, so we still need to find out what happened when she and the Guardians met in the first place.
At the end of the trailer, Jane Foster (Natalie Portman) is dressed as Thor. During Ragnarok, Hela smashed Thor’s magic hammer, Mjölnir. Jane is wielding a restored version of it. Love and Thunder somehow changed Mjölnir, and now it has a new owner. For a while, we knew that the movie was based on Jason Aaron’s work on The Mighty Thor comics. That doesn’t mean Jane taking over for Thor isn’t exciting. It’s great to see her in the MCU.
If you’ve seen the first trailer for Thor: Love and Thunder, you know that it’s full of secrets and Easter eggs. There’s still a lot of unknown about the movie, however. It’s still not over, but we haven’t yet seen Christian Bale play Gorr the God Butcher, a new villain who hates gods so much that he wants to destroy every pantheon in the world. We’re sure to learn more about Thor: Love and Thunder as the movie’s marketing campaign picks up, and Disney gives more information about the God of Thunder’s next adventure.
Thor: Love and Thunder will hit theaters on July 8th 2022
