The Star Wars series is one that has a significant amount of background to go along with it. Over the course of the abundant stuff that had been released over the time of the previous two decades, many fan favorites had passed away, entire planets had been destroyed, and a pervasive darkness had spread over the Star Wars galaxy. The miseries of death, the mutating of loved ones, and intergalactic warfare are all experienced by the characters.

The Star Wars films have elicited a wide range of reactions from the public, including laughter, applause, and gasps of surprise. When it comes to making their audience ugly-cry, the makers of the Star Wars films are indeed the MASTERS.

Terrible events of the greatest magnitude occurred on the shelves of history, comics, and other media that chronicled the further tales of the galaxy far, far away. Since the first film in the series, “The Phantom Menace”, viewers have been moved to tears by each successive instalment. In the Legends canon, there are a number of shockingly sad events that sent shockwaves across the fan community.

The Star Wars films have featured a number of tragic and wrenching scenes over the course of their history. There are some scenes in Star Wars that are more heartbreaking than others; therefore, we have compiled a list of the top 8 most heartbreaking and saddest moments.

1. ROGUE ONE- HEARTBREAKING ENDING

Rogue one, a more sinister instalment in the Star Wars franchise, was a dreadful picture from beginning to end, but the film’s sad ending was what truly marked it apart from other films in the series. Every individual of Rogue One gave their lives for a cause in which they strongly believed.

Jyn Erso changed from apathetic to willing to sacrifice for the Rebellion. Cassian Andor, who has been involved in the conflict ever since he was a kid, gave his life for the sole purpose he had ever been familiar with. It was very heartbreaking to watch this movie when both Jyn and Cassian met their ends.
The very last scene of the movie was one of the many iconic events in the movie. In this scene, the Empire conducted the first test of the Death Star, which resulted in the deaths of all of the original characters that we had come to know and love. In spite of the heroic efforts they put up, all of the story’s characters perish in the end. However, their sacrifice was not in fruitless because they were able to recover the blueprints for the Death Star and delivered information to the rebels before they were killed.

The entire conclusion of Rogue One is filled with a great deal of melancholy.

2. THE TRAGIC END OF QUI-GON JINN AT DARTH MAUL’S HANDS

The death of Qui-Gon Jinn, a famous Jedi knight and the powerful Jedi Master, at the hands of Darth Maul was the most heartbreaking and saddest scene of the prequel trilogy. The action scenes between Darth Maul, Obi-Wan Kenobi, and Qui-Gon Jinn were incredibly exciting to watch; nonetheless, The Phantom Menace was nevertheless a fairly disappointing film, especially considering that it brought Jinn’s life to an end.

The scene in which Qui-Gon Jinn was seen breathing his final breaths was unquestionably one that was extremely difficult to witness. Many viewers were moved to tears by this particular scene. The deep link that existed between master and disciple has been severed as a result of his passing. Not only does it end the series’ greatest character, but it also puts Obi-Wan Kenobi in a difficult position, forcing him to go up against his more seasoned opponent without any help. After Qui-Gon was killed, Obi-Wan Kenobi was responsible for Anakin Skywalker’s training.

During the events of “The Phantom Menace,” Obi-Wan and Qui-Gon duelled Darth Maul on the planet Naboo. Obi-Wan Kenobi was unable to stop Darth Maul from stabbing his master while he was hemmed in by energy shields. The confrontation between Master Qui-Gon Jinn and Padawan Obi-Wan Kenobi and the Sith Lord Darth Maul was indeed a high point in the film, and it went from exciting to devastating when Maul tore the two Jedi apart.

When Obi-Wan finally had the opportunity to confront Maul, he was successful in splitting the Sith in two. Young and shocked, Obi-Wan, was forced to witness in horror and helplessness as Darth Maul took the life of his master.

3. ANAKIN SKYWALKER MURDERS YOUNGLINGS IN RESPONSE TO ORDER 66

One of the most emotionally wrenching scenes ever created was in Episode 3, “Revenge of the Sith.” The incident at the Jedi temple in which Anakin Skywalker was seen slicing younglings.

For millennia, the Jedi Knights stood as the galaxy’s guardians and caretakers of the Force. However, in “Revenge of the Sith”, Palpatine issued Order 66, thereby ending the Jedi Order. After years of planning, Emperor Palpatine issues Order 66, which instructs all Clone Troopers to fight on their Jedi comrades.

Following his fall to the dark side, Anakin served as the ideal stooge for Palpatine’s grand scheme to wipe out the whole Jedi Order by issuing Order 66. While it was expected of Anakin to turn on his Jedi companions and kill them, his actions inside the Jedi temple went too far. Anakin now commanded a troop that stormed the Jedi Temple and killed anybody he found there. Not just Anakin slaughtered everyone he saw, but he also faced a group of frightened Younglings who had come to him for assistance. He then slashed them to pieces with his blue lightsaber.

Anakin’s desire to rescue Padme was understood by many viewers, but his actions in doing so infuriated many others and demonstrated his twisted character. The unfathomable deed was one of the greatest tragedies in the galaxy and the reason why fans no longer felt sympathy for the character. After all, it’s hard to rationalise killing a group of young kids.

4. THE SHAME OF AHSOKA FOR ANAKIN’S DOWNFALL

Among the many legendary female warriors around the galaxy, Ahsoka Tano stands out as a true legend. By wielding a lightsaber with a white blade, she sets herself different from the other characters. Ahsoka Tano lightsaber and her iconic character are indeed responsible for the popularity and huge fan-base of the franchise. It’s fair to say that Ahsoka has shared some of the franchise’s heaviest emotional burden. The scenario in which Ahsoka realises she is responsible for her master’s transformation to the dark side is a wrenching one.
When Ahsoka was associated with the Jedi order, she was accused of destroying the Jedi Temple. All through the ordeal, she remained unflinching in her honesty, although she was largely on her own. Ahsoka ultimately decides to leave the Jedi Order, despite the close bond she shares with Anakin and Obi-Wan Kenobi. Her act was a contributing factor in Anakin’s feeling of loss and dissatisfaction with the Jedi. Leaving the Jedi Order was a blessing in disguise for Ahsoka, as she would no longer be a target of Order 66.

She made a cameo appearance in the series Star Wars Rebels many years later. Even after all these years, the Ahsoka scenes still stand out. After learning what had become of her old Master Anakin Skywalker, Ahsoka let out a wail of grief that tore at anybody who watched it. Ahsoka Tano had a glimpse of Anakin Skywalker’s spirit; the spirit condemned her for Anakin becoming Darth Vader. Ahsoka’s sentiments of remorse are vividly illustrated by the brief interaction, even though she had no way of knowing that Anakin would meet such a tragic end.

5. MARA JADE’S DEATH AT THE HANDS OF JACEN SOLO

Jacen Solo was the eldest son of Han Solo and princess Leia Organa. Something within Jacen Solo broke after Anakin Solo ( Jacen’s brother) was killed in the fight against the Yuuzhan Vong. As a result, Jacen gradually gave in to the allure of the evil side as he was tempted by Dark Lady Lumiya.
After years of resisting its pull, Jacen Solo turned Darth Caedus with one aim in mind: to protect the galaxy from its own incompetence. His path was obstructed by a number of different people. But, he considered himself an ally working for the Galactic Alliance’s benefit because he anticipated that the frail structure would eventually break apart from internal strife and external threats.

Sith Lady Lumiya persuaded him that in order to demonstrate his altruism and dedication, he needed to make a sacrifice of someone he adored, and as a result, he ultimately killed his aunt mara jade in a dramatic showdown to the death. In addition to depriving fans of a much-loved character and strong Jedi, this event solidified Jason’s position as an antagonist.

The brutal manner in which he put an end to her life has created a gaping gash in the emotional fabric of his whole Skywalker’s family. Ben, who was the son of Luke and Mara, attempted to take things into his own hands in order to exact retribution, and in the process, he ended up killing the Sith Lady Lumiya. Death of Mara Jade has created a void in the Force that cannot be filled.

6. HAN SOLO’S DEATH BY HIS OWN SON

While there are many beloved characters across the Star Wars saga, Han Solo is undeniably among the most popular. His charisma, excellent looks, humour, and fearlessness captured the hearts of nearly everyone.
Fans were ecstatic to hear that Harrison Ford would be returning as Han Solo in Star Wars: The Force Awakens. The three additional flicks featuring Han as well as his furry sidekick were eagerly anticipated by fans. Unfortunately, such elation was only temporary. When the inevitable encounter with his beloved son, Ben Solo (also known as Kylo Ren), started, there was definitely an ominous air surrounding the situation. On Starkiller Base, Kylo Ren carried out a savage attack that resulted in the death of his father.

The moment when Ren stabbed his father with his lightsaber, audiences in theaters all over the world let out audible gasps, and many of them openly sobbed as they saw the scene.

Although we did get a brief glimpse of Han Solo in “Rise of Skywalker,” it was clear that the character had been written out of the Star Wars canon with his death. . This was a very sad death to witness. Aside from that, it was even more heartbreaking to witness him killed by his son; his death struck fans really very hard.

7. BOBA FETT HOLDS HIS DEAD FATHER’S HEAD IN HIS ARMS

Despite his little screen time, Boba Fett remains a notable character in Star Wars canon thanks to his distinctive suit and Superhero abilities. Even without the use of the Force, Boba Fett remained one of the few characters in the galaxy capable of defeating Jedi Knights in combat, thanks to his superb Mandalorian armour.

His father Jango nurtured him on Kamino until he and his son were suddenly transported to Geonosis to fight Jedi. A tragic event in his youth, though, helped shape him into the ruthless bounty hunter he became, and viewers of Attack of the Clones saw it all unfold. That unfortunate event was the passing of his father, Jango Fett, who had also served as a bounty hunter.

Jango had the unfortunate event of having his jet pack crushed by a Reek at the exact wrong times, exposing him to a fatal strike from Mace Windu’s iconic purple lightsaber. Jango’s head was severed as a result of this attack. One of the most heartbreaking scenes in the Star Wars trilogy was when a young Boba Fett was shown carrying the helmet of his deceased father.

Although characters like Boba Fett wind up serving for the “evil guys” in the Star Wars films, they are actually forlorn warriors who happened to be engaged on the wrong path and are more sympathetic than their gruff facades would originally reveal.

8. DARTH VADER’S SAD FINAL MOMENTS

Darth Vader transcended the realm of ordinary cinematic iconography over the period of three films. He is, without a doubt, the most iconic movie figure of all time. He is among the top tier of villains in the Star Wars saga. Even though the deceased was almost undoubtedly a villain, his death lacked any sense of villainy.

Although many people detested him, others found great amusement in his… wicked violence. It was made very evident in the movie “Return of the Jedi” that Darth Vader had started to have doubts about his commitment. This presented Luke with an opportunity to change his father’s opinion and bring him over to the light side. Despite this, not everything turned out the way that was anticipated.

The scenes in which he realizes he loves his son Luke, turns and throws the Emperor, and then dies from Palpatine’s hand lightning are heartbreaking. Darth Vader died to protect Luke when he refused to join the Dark Side. The scene in which he was killed had a profound effect on the audience.

Darth Vader was the terrifying antagonist for three movies, and now audiences get a peek of his empathy and heroics, leaving them to question who the guy behind the helmet would have been had the Bad Side not overtaken him.
