Episode 6 of The Book of Boba Fett hinted at the direction Luke Skywalker was taking the Jedi Order. During the penultimate episode of the series, we saw Luke offer Grogu a choice- either he has to choose to be a Jedi or a Mandalorian.

Many have pointed out that this kind of ultimatum is very out-of-character for Luke. After all, it was attachments that saved Anakin Skywalker and the galaxy as a whole.

Even when Ben Solo became Kylo Ren, he only found his way back through his parental attachments as well as Rey’s mercy. Overall, Star Wars hasn’t ever shied away from showing the Jedi Order’s insistence on foregoing emotional attachments as problematic.

In the Legends universe, Luke was allowed attachments again in his new Order. However, that doesn’t seem like canon right now. But there’s a rumor doing the rounds that says that Lucasfilm wants to adapt this concept in the future.

Lucasfilm Wants To Bring In A New Jedi Order

Joanna Robinson, in a recent Ringer-Verse podcast, shared via Reddit a new rumor that Lucasfilm is interested in making a new Jedi Order. Robinson was a writer for Vanity Fair and said this about the rumor:

“I have heard whispers on the wind this is indeed something Lucasfilm is interested in. Just more broadly rebuilding the Jedi Order. A Star Wars story where someone actually tries to rebuild the Jedi religion as one that allows for attachment…”

However, Robinson said that nothing is permanent. Also, we know that Lucasfilm plays around with various ideas for a bit before discarding them. Here’s what she said:

“I mean, but we should be clear, you could fill many football stadiums with all the ideas that Lucasfilm has thought they wanted to do and then didn’t end up doing, right? So that doesn’t mean it’s going to happen.”

How Will This Affect The MandoVerse?

We don’t know if this idea will be done or not. But let us focus on what’s immediately coming up next. In The Book of Boba Fett, Luke has asked Grogu to choose between being a Jedi and a Mandalorian.

Many fans think that this choice situation is just a test by Luke to encourage Jedis to have attachments. If this indeed happens, then canon Luke will be like Legends-era Luke regarding his new Jedi principles.

This might get the ball rolling in his new Jedi Order direction. If this happens, then we might get to see changes sooner rather than later. Also, if the MandoVerse acts as the starting point for this narrative development, then the upcoming Ahsoka show will surely address this as well.

We know that Anakin Skywalker and Ahsoka Tano have a strong bond. Even though Ahsoka abandoned him in Clone Wars, she refused to leave Anakin during Rebels when he was fully consumed by Darth Vader. This would have killed her had Ezra Bridger not intervened.

Now, the upcoming Ahsoka show will involve the titular heroine searching for Thrawn and Ezra. The missing Jedi understands that attachments can be good when they’re cultivated positively.

After all, he shared a strong bond with Kanan Jarrus, his master. Also, he understood that Hera Syndulla and Kanan were able to love each other without putting the latter’s loyalty to the Order at risk.

Is The Future Of The Jedi Order With Rey?

If we see this narrative change in the MandoVerse, then Ahsoka Tano, Luke Skywalker, and Ezra Bridger will be coming together for sure. We already saw in episode 6 that Luke and Ahsoka had bonded, perhaps over their relationships with Anakin.

Both are great examples of what a great Jedi with compassion and attachments for others can turn out to be.

However, if this doesn’t happen and Luke indeed is serious about asking Grogu to choose, then his Jedi Academy is doomed. After all, we know that Ben Solo will go on a rampage and destroy the Academy soon.

So who else can guide the Jedi Order on the right path again? There’s one possibility, and that’s Rey. She can start a Jedi Academy, too. However, that’s a distant possibility, since right now, nothing has connected the MandoVerse to the Sequel Trilogy, concretely.

Also, we have no idea what plans are there for the characters from the Sequel Trilogy next. As such, it remains to be seen how Lucasfilm proceeds with this new Jedi Order idea. Or rather, we have to see IF they choose to proceed with it.
