Last December’s Disney Investors show saw a whole slate of Star Wars shows coming to Disney+. However, there wasn’t any news about a Luke Skywalker show there. But it looks like that might change and we could see more of Luke again. After all, he has already shown up on The Mandalorian season 2. So it won’t be a huge stretch to imagine that his own show might be in development.
Luke Skywalker’s appearance in The Mandalorian season 2 finale saw the entire internet lose its mind and sanity. His cameo there will surely get him a spot in the ranks of the biggest and best TV show moments of this year. But more than seeing his appearance, fans loved seeing Luke when he was the most powerful and was just beginning his own Jedi Academy.
So it makes sense that if Disney and Lucasfilm wanted to do a Disney+ show on Luke, it would be in the time period of his life when he was the most powerful. The rumours or reports about this show comes from the Giant Freakin Robot site. This site broke that there’s going to be a Luke Skywalker series and that it was going to be set after Return of the Jedi.
Whether the show will happen or not is anyone’s guess. But fans would certainly love for it to happen. After all, it will allow a tonne of the loved Expanded universe stuff to come to live-action. For example, there is one thing fans want to see and that’s Mara Jade. After all, she was a Sith assassin but became Luke’s wife. So if the show does end up happening then we could all see Mara Jade finally in live-action.
Note that the biggest factor that’s leaning into a Luke solo show is the fact that he has Grogu with him. So we will surely be seeing him at least once more because Disney is unlikely to lose their fave mascot in just season 2. So maybe, just like Ashoka’s appearance in season 2 of The Mandalorian led to her own spin-off, Luke’s appearance too could lead to his spinoff as well.
However, it’s advised that you keep your expectations in check. This is because it would take a lot of CGI and a lot of money to make Mark Hamill look like his Return of the Jedi self. Also, with the whole lot of announced Star Wars shows, Lucasfilm probably won’t have time to work on a Luke spinoff right now at least. But we must say that if it does end up happening, then we will be the happiest!
